So I've got roughly £24 to spend on a game of my choosing and I've been interested in Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, due to my love of open-world games, Westerns and zombies.

But is the game worth it? Like, is there enough content there to ensure a decent playtime for the price?

Plus, and this is a stupid question: do you need the original RDR game to play Undead Nightmare? Cause I've seen UN in its own proper games case on the shelves so I'm not sure if it's available as a stand-alone thing or if you need to still have the original RDR game disc for it to work.

EDIT: Also, I've been considering getting either GTA4 or the Tales of Liberty City stand-alone release. Are these better than RDR:UN?

You can get it in a standalone box, which doesn't require the RDR disc, or you can download it as DLC for RDR.

However, I strongly urge you to get the original Red Dead Redemption instead, then get the DLC later. It's such a good game that it'd be stupid to miss it.

Play the original. There are may references to RDR in Undead.

But yes, it is worth it, it captures the atmosphere perfectly.

It's not as long as the normal version of RDR, of course, but its easily the best DLC for any game I've ever played. Even after you're done with the missions, hunting down rare monsters and horses offers plenty of fun. LOVE it.

Also, do you have Saints Row 2? Cuz that's definitely a pick over GTA4 and possibly Undead Nightmare (it's definitely much longer and equally fun).

If you already have Red Dead, it's only a $10 download. The standalone disc is (I think) $20 USD, and it has all the multiplayer/challenge mode add-ons.

It's lightning in a bottle, buddy. Go get it. Or pick up RDR and download Undead Nightmare, because both campaigns are phenomenal.

I do. I'm actually playing it right now, coincidentally.

And actually if I disgregard GTA4, I'm still debating spending said money (or at least some of it) on Saint's Row 2's DLC packs, since I've had this game years but never played them.

You don't really need to have played the original RDR to enjoy Undead Nightmare - Blowing up zombies with dynamite needs no context. However, if you do play the original beforehand you'll get a few laughs from seeing some of your favorite characters again, and the ending will have more of an impact.

I wouldn't recommend GTA4, even if you already own Saints Row 2; It's repetitve, frustrating, and flat-out boring after a couple hours.

RDR and Undead Nightmare are the best sandbox game I've played so far. I had one lull point throughout RDR, but the entire experience is fantastic.

Also if your enjoying SR2, I'd plan to save for SR3 as well, it looks freakin great as well

If you're the kind of person who just wants craziness, then sure. But I personally enjoyed GTA IV a great deal, and I liked the more realistic tone Rockstar went for. Liberty City still surprises me with its attention to detail. The only things that annoyed me was the relatively few clothing options, and lackluster hand-to-hand combat.

There are tons of things to do in the DLC.
Kill zombiez, ride unicorns, capture the cupacabra, many things involving mysical creatures.

It's worth it but get the game first, RDR is more than worth the cash...Undead Nightmare just makes it that much better.

Ending or UN has some spoilers in it if you haven't played the original. And how can you not of if you love sandbox games and westerns !?!? Anyway yea, I loved the original red dead and RDR and UN are no exception. But i would strongly recomend playing the original first. Jut to get the characters, the world, and how batshit crazy UN gets. FYI. UN is the entire map of the open world of the full game. Same town, same characters, okay the mission get a little monotonous. But it's hella fun. RDR is a more duck cover and shoot. While UN is more OH SHIT RUN ZOMBIES bang bang bang. It's good times. Play the original can't stress it enough.

Oh and not to ruin anything but did confuse the story arc? I mean UN technically takes place before RDR, but after you beat the game it's the final chapter so far of the story....So how does everyone know u and reference the main game if most of what they are talking about didn't happen yet?

Here's the deal, if you already own Red Dead Redemption, and want Undead Nightmare, Undead Nightmare will only cost you $10.

If you don't already have Red Dead Redemption but you want Undead Nightmare, you have to buy the Undead Nightmare pack, and that costs $30 from what I remember.

You can get Red Dead Redemption brand new for about $35 right now, and with Undead Nightmare you'd be paying $45, only $15 more than buying Undead Nightmare separately. Red Dead Redemption is a fantastic game (my game of the year from last year), and Undead Nightmare is the best $10 I've ever spent on DLC. Both definitely worth a buy in my opinion.
