Poll: underage animated female characters...

So I was just reading this thread

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.290715-Australia-Bans-Dead-or-Alive-Dimensions-After-All?page=2#11549609

and it occurred to me that, whether or not the girls are of age or not, does it matter if they're animated? I mean, if they're fictional no one is being exploited, so what's the problem, so long as they don't look TOO young? With animated characters, the only thing you have to go on is the character's description, and an animated 17 year old could just as easily be changed to an animated 18 year old with just a quick edit of the character's background page.

This isn't a bash on Australia's decision to ban the game (sure there are already plenty of those) I was just wondering what others thought of this.

So my question is this-should it matter in the case of an animated underage character being portrayed sexually, given that there is no exploitation?

EDIT: I didn't mean in the case of little kids (though I guess you could imply the same concept) I meant in the case of the late teens age range where it can be really hard to tell the difference between of age and underage.

I don't think it should...I don't really care about straight up pornographic material featuring drawn or animated minors either.

Getting rid of the fake kiddy porn doesn't mean that pedophiles go away. It just means that they're forced to move on to real children to satisfy their desires.

I'd rather them be wanking to anime girls than my daughter, bro. >:x

If it's Japanese in origin and the character is portrayed as a young, sexy girl, it's probably because the age of consent over there is 13-18. There really is no problem at all with it if you put it in context with the creator's origins.

OT, I don't give a shit cuz they aren't real. Besides, isn't Austrailia one of those crotchety old man governments that ban anything that has boobs or gore that isn't a movie?

Well since the age limits are just based on the age, no.
I could call someone who looks like an eighty-year-old one and that would technically be illegal.
Or I could call a toddler 18, and that would be really messed up (yet technically legal).
Admittedly those are extreme cases, but even real women can look under/over age when they aren't. So why should pixels be illegal when they aren't hurting anyone and age is purely a decision of the writer.

The girls aren't real, so I don't give a shit... seriously, you don't need to protect the mental/physical health of a drawing!

Well Loli is a thing. A legal thing. There's no avoiding that. It all then depends on how you feel about it.

My stance has been that if you have Loli in your list of interests, you are far less likely to find an actual woman... Unless the reason you have Loli is because you're more interested in an actual little girl, in which case you have problems. That's where the problem lies. There isn't anyone to be exploited, so there aren't any victims... But it does encourage pedophile activities and interests.

It depends. If it's in that semi-ambiguous age range (i.e. is she supposed to be 16 or 18?) that's one thing. But if it's sexualization of an obviously underage person (regardless of whether it's a girl or a boy) then it's wrong. The last thing they need to be doing is giving perverts more ideas.

At any rate, most games that go the "lets show some jailbait" route have very little redeeming value. It's not like modeling the character to be a couple years older (thus eliminating the controversy) would change the game. They just want the controversy because that's the only way to sell some shitty games.

I watch, and read, Negima! every week. That should tell you my opinion on the matter, especially considering Fuka and Fumika.

This kind of thing is actually Illegal in the UK, but I think its a stupid law.

Fictional animated characters are much better than the alternive *Shudders*

It shouldn't, but some people think you're encouraging paedophiles to rape children if you let them have sexually explicit drawings of children.
Words can not explain how retarded I think that notion is.

However distasteful it seems to us, if it can stop just one person looking at real child pornography then it should be legal.

I'd rather if paedophiles get their jollies from artwork featuring fictional representations of children rather than porn featuring real children. Still kinda creepy? yes, very.

In US it does. A guy was arrested for possessing manga depicting underage girls.
In Japan, a poll indicated that it should not be banned. The poll included all demographics.

They do say "oh, she's actually 18." While you, or they, may claim that the young-ish age of the character is only due to the artistic style, it's up to a judge or jury of your 'peers' to make the decision.

Animated characters can't really be non-fictional.

Giving 'material' to paedos does not make them go away. They'll just indulge in it and start looking for more. Unless the 'material' is a chemical castratant[footnote]not a proper word, though I don't know why[/footnote].

I think it's right to do this, but I'm tired and it's late so can't quite string together an argument as to why. I'll come up with something good tomorrow.

Eh, it doesn't exploit anyone per say, but it encourages pedophile behavior.

Pedophiles need psychological help, not outlets for their desires.

Surely it's better that there's an outlet with no victim opposed to the only alternative having a victim? That's my view on it anyway.
