Feh. They should just create a uniform. Much simpler. I had to wear uniforms all my sub-tertiary school life, and I survived. It was great in one sense because:

a) you never had to think about what you were going to wear
b) in primary school, it didn't matter so much if you got a bit dirty, cos it wasn't your good clothes.

I admit it's a bit monotonous, but to all those who say it stifles your individuality: if your clothes are the only way you can show you're an individual, then you've got bigger problems than having to wear a uniform.

I do agree however that a bunch of strict rules that everyone has to remember are stupid, when if they want to control what students wear, they should just enforce an actual uniform and simplify everyone's lives.

Wait, this is a public school?!

I've always been against dress codes. It's just arbitrary silliness.

In the UK it's not much different if not worse. We all just have to wear the same uniform, nothing different.

This won't seem at all outrageous to those of us in The UK.

WE GET IT MUCH MUCH WORSE.

..........what?

OT: Thats pretty damn strict. I am not totally against uniforms if they are loose, but thats a little overkill. Especially the one about no logo, seeing as that pretty much discounts pretty much every collared shirt most kids have. You also need to think about the burden that is put on families, imagine buying a week's worth of clothing, that would be at least 300 dollars.

I loved going to an Ontario Catholic high school, the academic standard was high, the students were (in my school at least) well behaved, and we had uniforms. I loved uniforms. I could wake up any day of the school week and not have to think about what to wear, I did not have to deal with males wearing little girl jeans, or ridiculously low pants, and due to the modesty of the uniform I was A. Not distracted in class, and B. On civvies days the girls overcompensated a bit.

Damn, even the private schools I've gone to didn't have that strict a dress code policy. It's ridiculous, who's the dumb ass who came up with that policy?

I have like that exact same code...if its an alternative school yeah they can do that. But if its not then thats way less likely. Its fine though really. In grade 9-11 i broke uniform everyday.

We live near the ocean so it gets to be 98 farenhiet with it being crazy humid in these thick clothing. Being humid means no sweat evaporates meaning it sticks with you all day. These arn't really the best clothes for that weather
Huh? I have no clue what you are talking about....

Wow. That certainly sounds like a communistic state right there. I dislike any uniform unless you are attending a prestigious university or something. Public school, that's wrong. Killing the individuality of people.

All boring and generic folks wandering around, that would depress me more then the thought of school itself.
I do not see how it is communist...

It makes me so angry when every day when you walk in the building a teacher checks your eyes to make sure it's not the same color as your shirt. Also just to make sure(despite the fact that we are kicked out of the school if our shirt is the same color as our eyes) every teacher checks your eyes when you walk past them to make sure they are not the same color as your eyes. Believe it or not there was a city wide(or town wide as it would be) vote on the dress code and majority of people voted FOR this.

I went to a public school and we had an ACTUAL uniform. It was disgusting too. You were not allowed to wear anything outside the uniform... even a black or uniform color t-shirt underneath the school polo shirt wasn't allowed, even in winter. We found ways to do our own thing with hair and belts and shoes but mainly we were all blue/grey shapeless lumps thanks to the manky baggy jumpers. It was boiling in summer and freezing in winter and useless in the rain all year round.

I live in England, and went to public school until summer this year... so its not like im a grandpa complaining about olden times.
On the upside, some of the more flat-chested girls did quite well, as you simply couldn't tell. That was the only advantage. For them. For everyone else it was all bad.

lolwut.

This is why I oppose dress codes. It doesn't help that my high school allowed Slipknot tee-shirts, spandex, and whiteface - and I was in a private Christian school!

To be honest, I don't think it's that big of a deal. You're going to school to learn, not to make some kind of fashion statement.
That's true, but sending kids out of class because when their shirt came out of their pants when the bent over or something does impede their learning.

Think yourself lucky, my school uniform was green and black we had to wear a thick blazer ALL year round tie done right up to the top no buttons undone. Believe me sitting in a heat wave in a blazer in a small poorly ventilated room is not fun, especially when they don't let you take the blasted things off. ¬¬ Mind you I thought in American schools you could wear what you wanted =/ 99% of schools in the UK have to wear uniforms.
It depends. If the dress is politically motivated there's a good chance the whole code would be struck down as restricting free speech. So public schools can't prevent people from wearing a "No H8" T-shirt if they can't demonstrate it to be disruptive or offensive. However, there isn't as much legal standing to wear, say a band T-shirt. Sometimes courts will apply the same "disruptive and/or offensive" standard to any sort of free speech clothing, but others restrict it to protecting political speech clothing.

As a passionate individualist, I think the very concept of a dress code is ridiculous, and especially hair.

Sure, school is for learning, not for making fashion statements, but dress codes have nothing to do with learning. I've yet to hear one single good argument FOR dress codes.
I would agree with what you are are saying if not for two things...
Obnoxious hair styles like the 12 inch green dyed mo-hawk.
Underwear sticking out so everyone to see your boxers.
Seriously what happened to the days when if someone had their underwear showing everyone would point and laugh at them.
