I'm probably not the only who has a problem going from one control scheme to another on the same console and have asked myself many times why game developers don't just make a universal control scheme. I know FPS's and RPG's have completely different ways of playing them but still, is this a good idea or not?

Not. It's restrictive for no reason other than to be restrictive; pointless standardisation generally leads to homogeny.

Because conforming to a specific scheme is much harder than going with what people are used to, and have had not too many problems with before.

No, just give us the option to change the controls to our liking and I'm good.

I think consoles should have the option to map actions to keys. I can either use LT or B to punch - what if I'm feeling rebellious? There might be some technical limitation I'm unaware of, but still.

I think that things are good enough as they are. I just learn to relate the control scheme to the game. Admittedly I can be seen changing weapons when trying to jump in Halo 3 after a rather too long Fallout 3 period, but I soon relearn it. Might just be me.

There really isn't a big problem going between control schemes give me about 2 minutes and I have it down (or back down). It allows the company to use what they want and to better use the controller to how they see fit, plus being able to customize your control scheme is seeming to become more popular among developers.
