So I'm playing through ME1 again, on veteran, and becoming seriously pissed off about the game's habit of putting a long cutscene just before a battle. Any other games where this is a problem for you guys?

I'm going with yes.

Because some games when you're replaying it and don't want to watch cutscenes, then you find out you can't skip them. It annoys the hell out of me.

Yes, they should be skippable. But it should be in a way where you press one button, and then you have to press a completely different button to confirm so that they aren't accidentally skipped either.

Also, I personally think anyone who votes no on this is insane. I mean come on, why would you hate the option? If you want to watch, you still can, but if you don't want to, you don't have to.

Only if you've beaten the game before/have to replay a spot. Otherwise, you can miss parts of the story.

I don't know how to vote because they shouldn't be skippable the first time, but after that it should be skippable.

All cutscenes should be skippable by hitting pause and then having an option to skip. Also they should be able to be paused without skipping the cutscene.

Yes, they should be. Every game should go the MGS4 / Shadow Hearts 2 approach: Ability to pause during cutscenes with the option to skip. Including the first playthrough.

Defiantly yes. And if you're going to put lengthy cutscenes before boss fights, at the very least put some kind of checkpoint between the cutscene and the start of the fight so that we don't have to rewatch the cutscene over and over again every time we die. ...that is if you're determined not to make the damn thing skippable. Actually, ideally I'd rather you do both, make the cutscene skippable AND put a checkpoint between the cutscene and the start of the fight.

They should all be skippable, yes, but they should also be minimized. Cutscenes are rarely the best way to show some part of a game, and if a developer can show something without having to turn it into a cutscene, they should do it. The best games have no cutscenes, skippable or not, or maybe just one at the very beginning and one at the very end. But if a game absolutely needs to have a cutscene, it should always be skippable.

I'd actually be alright with having cutscenes, but having a checkpoint between a cutscene and the fight. Because seriously, are the game testers all playing on easy mode?

Nothing angers me more than watching the same unskippable cutscene over and over again after dying repeatedly on a tough boss or a hard section.
