No it will not work. Your chipset is the PM/GM965, which only supports 667MHz and 800MHz FSB CPUs. The one you want is a 1333Mhz FSB, the best upgrade would be the X9000, and the best bang for the buck CPU will be the T9300/T9500.

Read the box on the dual core, it's for a desktop unless you can put them in laptops too?

yeah I say don't make the same mistake I did. Laptops are cool, but more bang for a desk top.

and desktops aren't all that bad. Just big

Yeah I agree with above. If you are intent on purchasing this laptop though, it already has a dual core 2.0 GHz CPU in it. That should be enough, but if you wanna go faster, go for it AS LONG AS you know what you are doing.

In the end a laptop, no matter how well it's made and cared for just can not compete with a desktop when it comes to dispersing heat.

It's that heat that leads to errors, crashes, and damaged hardware.
I have never considered laptops to be performance machines. I have one it has good specs but I never use it for gaming. I use it mostly as a glorified word processor and media streamer from my NAS.

There is also the possibility that your laptop and it's cooling system (what there is of it) was designed with the specific chip it has in it in mind. Meaning upping it by much might lead to those very heat related problems.

You know you are looking at desktop cpus... I'm pretty much they wont work, heres a link to the x9000 they pretty expensive for a cpu http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Intel-CORE2-X9000-Q174-2-8-6M-800mhz-C0-stepping_W0QQitemZ250476081660QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a5189b1fc&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_1252wt_1166

or you can get the T9500 here if the x9000 is over your budget http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Mobile-Processor-T9500-2-6G-6M-800FSB_W0QQitemZ180391133297QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a00264071&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_2798wt_1165
