Been wondering for a while as to whether this happens everywhere or not so please post your experiences!

Mine is with my manager, we are a team of 4 including him and we are lucky to see an hours work out of him. Most of the time he is talking about pointless things to people, on the phone to his wife, playing with Linux or hiding out in the toilet. There have been times he has been absent for weeks at a time, once was around 6 weeks and for the first 2 weeks of that we got maybe 1 or 2 calls from his wife saying he wouldnt be in but being vague about any reason. So i was wondering what other people there are out there and what makes them useless.

Also if you have the perfect work place as well as sending me the details you can post about that too, if such a place exists.

Being made redundant from this company in a couple of weeks so that's my excuse for being pretty useless for now. So at the moment i am being paid to write posts on the escapist. Not all bad right?

This happened to me. Except not only was she complaining I wasn't working, she was complaining I wasn't working because I was a man. Everyone else in the office did less work than me, but that was allowed because they were women. If at any point I pointed out that I could hear them bitching about men all day, every day, I was sent to one of the several small, dank rooms that was nowhere nearby so I could "file more efficiently".

I eventually got "let go" by a phone call while I was on holiday, telling me they'd decided to go for someone who could work more hours, without bothering to ask me if I could do them first...

*****.

My dad is always complaining about this woman who works for him because she has been on sick leave for almost a year now. He can't fire her because of employment laws. Also he has been in trouble before because he hired a more competant male applicant for a job above a woman who then tried to take him to court for being sexist. He got made redundant because of that. That's why employment laws are FUCKING RIDICULOUS PIECES OF BULLSHIT!!!!! But on the plus side he did get a ridiculous payout so we could pay off our mortgage.

Looking at the poll results so far its the people higher up who are most useless. Maybe the power goes to their heads a bit too much

It happens a lot in unions. Everything is based on seniority instead of merit, so if you've been there a couple of years you really don't have to do anything at all. The worst part is that people who have been there for less time cannot get paid more no matter how good they may be at their jobs.

The power sure does go to their heads; wrecking their brain over an extended period of time until they are unable to do anything for themselves... or maybe they were just useless social climbers to begin with. I prefer the latter.

Having shitty co-workers is part of the magic of being employed. Just try not to act like them and, in theory, you should make more money.

To be honest seeing how my manager is now i'd say the latter is more likely. Tends to pick out jobs that can get him praise from the top level people and ignore everyone else. If it doesn't seem to provide a self-benefit then he will just ignore it or pass it down.

We had a literal PHB (her hair made her look exactly like she was wearing a pineapple) but ironically she was pretty damn good at her job.

I transferred to filing a week later though. There we had a guy who did bugger all real work and just sat about listening to the radio.

I am the lazy, useless co-worker.

Well, not really. It does feel like it though, when what I do requires 10 minutes of actual work and one hour of waiting.

Yes, but I need a option for useless at the same level, lower levels and upper levels. There are some days I feel like I'm there on my own, however one day I will be a assistant manage nd whip the lackeys into shape.

Yeah, i went for an interview once for a commercial producer at a local news station and the guy who was going to be may "Manager" was so far behind the times it was ridiculous. "What's color correction?" ... Jesus. Now I work from home and create cartoons for you fine people. :)

Ha, pretty much five out of the eight managers I have are useless..
One in particular who is twenty-two and is constantly on his phone and brags about his life as if he is the greatest thing on this earth. To make things worse he hits on all of the high school girls that work with us. Bare mind these girls are seventeen and younger.
