I was up last night thinking about movies (good and bad) and while on thinking about the bad movies I have seen the name Uwe Boll popped in my head....and I cringed at the thought of how many mighty fine video games he has taken and turned them into crappy movies. So while in my "hmmm I really dislike his movies" thought process I got thinking....would it be possible for someone to take some of the titles that the Bollster churned out and remake them to be something good?
Just revamp and redo the eyesores that were his movies......like....just take the name throw the story and everything into the trash and start anew....
just something that crossed my mind, what do y'all think?

Certainly the dungeon seige movie could be turned into something worthwhile. The main problem with it was just that it was really incompetyently acted and directed - the movie itself wasn't inherently bad, it was just so very not good.

Sure, it's possible. But the universe would probably explode from such a bad idea, and it would require an incredible power source, like the heart of a black hole.

I think its simply impossible to ever EVER improve his films in any way.

Its a bit like a piece of crap: you may cover it up in chocolate spinkles and cover up the smell with odour remover, but its still going to be a lump of digested remains of someone's lunch.

Yeah, I actually watched a bit of it and it looked pretty damn good. (Keyword is looked...I can't really tell bad acting or directing unless it's REALLY obvious)

I don't just mean take what he made and redo it, I mean either that OR take the title alone and just start from scratch

My sentiments exactly.

I have seen his self proclaimed "genius" and it looks an awful lot like a pile of shit.
I would love for them to redo alot of things. But it's like asking them to pick up the wreckage of the Titanic and try fixing it up enough to make it sea worthy again. It's just not worth it.

I'd like to see someone try. It would be impossible, but history says that video game movies are usually not very good.

Some of them, Alone in the Dark springs to mind, could be done very well if given to a competent director and allowed to follow the games more closely, but then they wouldn't even really be Uwe Boll's movies.

This is the problem, theoretically any of his movies could be made into decent movies, but since his movies bear so little connection to the original games, they would be utterly unrecognisable as having once been Uwe Boll movies. (In other words, if they were made to be good, it would be impossible to recognise anything that Boll did in them.)

He fucked up those movies so much that there's no chance of fixing them. Not even Neil Blomkamp, John Badham or even Steven Spielberg could fix them; and those are some of the best directors around.

That's the main problem with a lot of bad films, though. In some cases, it is genuinely a case of 'everything is bad'. In fact, a film-making friend of mine mentioned yesterday that he saw a film that was specifically and pretentiously designed to be 'the worst film in existence'. The audience was given spoons to throw at the screen (not sure why it was spoons... :p) and the people behind the film ctually wanted that reaction, so it could become a cult classic type of thing.

But as you say, Matt, some films are just incompetently directed and acted. And that's pretty much the main flaw behind Uwe Boll's films. The plots aren't massively bad, at least, no worse than some films that seem to end up making millions at the box office. So it's definitely worth a try taking Boll's films apart and refilming them with better actors and directors. Tweak the plots a little to make them a bit more, you know, sane, and then maybe they'd be much better recieved. Though at this stage I think the sheer fact that Uwe Boll is attached to something is what drives a lot of people away, and means people don't give his stuff a fair chance. Which is something I think is wrong.

On that note, didn't you guys at LRR interview Uwe Boll at some point? I haven't seen that video yet, but from what I know didn't Grhama and Paul chat to him and decide he isn't as bad as people make out?

Uwe Boll is great. Videogame movies are always complete crap. At least when Uwe does them, they're not just crap but unintentionally funny. In the hands of any other director they would just be crap, period. House Of The Dead is a hell of a lot more entertaining than Tomb Raider, because House Of The Dead is so bad it's funny, whereas Tomb Raider is simply just bad. We should thank Uwe Boll for his services to gaming and let him continue on his glorious path to entertain us all.

No. Make up etc will not heal the scars left by Mr Bolls appauling movies.

He isn't as bad as Michael Bay, but he is on the level of M. Night. Shamaymalannanaynan in terms of pure crappyness.
