For those of you who haven't heard about it, Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines is a freeform action RPG in the mould of Deus Ex, based on the popular World of Darkness RPG series. It was released at the same time as Half-Life 2 (and its rushed release resulted in a lot of bugs and glitches), and was quickly overshadowed by the bigger-budget game. I'd quite like to hear your thoughts on it. (Comments would be appreciated)

I've never actually played it, but if it didn't go down well, was overshadowed and buggy. Perhaps there's a reason I haven't?

Well, the reason it was overshadowed was due to its unfortunate release date and lack of proper advertising (especially compared to Half-Life 2's fanfare), and most of the bugs have been dealt with in patches. It's a good game, if a bit underrated.

Yes, I remembered that game very well. I can't play it anymore though :(

I really loved the story back then and all the characters, the action and all. I was so young, however, that I never had any sight of those Glitches and Bugs and I enjoyed days playing that little game.

Wonderfull...I got play it again if I could...

It was fun, but VtM:Redemption still is far superior.

Admittedly, in that game you can't make it with smexy vampire "Twins" like you can in Bloodlines.

It's pretty easy to get on Steam these days.

Yeah, I know but I don't want to pay for it. ^_^
I got the original CD here. I only need to get it working on 64-Bit >.<
Somehow it gives an error. Well, That is a matter for another day.

I think you can register games on Steam with your cd key. This way you can download it, without paying or installing through a cd.

Really? That would be pretty neat. Maybe It will work on 64-Bit then. Though I don't like Steam very much but maybe this is worth it. ^_^

I love it. It's the best successor to Deus Ex we're gonna get. Eurogamer did a retrospective [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/retrospective-vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines] on it a while back that should bring back memories and maybe draw some new people in.

edit: ah yes I remember this

There should be an option, Great game, but buggy.

You can download the unofficial fan patches and they fix a good bit of stuff.

I just recently started playing this on Steam, I've found it pretty good so far, with only a few bugs.

The only thing I don't like about the game is how combat-heavy things get around the last few missions. I wanted to do a low-kills run but the later levels make it pretty much impossible. I guess that's what happens when it's release month and there's no time to create stealth opportunities or interesting dialogue. Things really start going downhill with the Warrens. I just noclip/notarget through them every time.

Yeah, the gameplay really does go down the toilet at that point. It's a real pity. But the gameplay beforehand is still something I consider a landmark in FPS-RPG games.

Glory to the malkavian goodies and bits scattered around. They really ent the extra mile on some parts, while, to my disappointment, lacking in others.

I never got into it because I actually used to play the real live game at the time. It did not seem necessary to play a video game about something I was already doing in real life.

Hey, hey, don't judge. We have all done things we are not proud of in our youth. Bad roleplaying is one of mine.

I'm currently doing a Malkavian playthrough, and the stuff I've come across is unreal. Having a conversation with a stop sign is still probably my favourite Malk moment.

Malkavians are pretty fun but the best clans are Brujah and Tremere, anyone who disagrees should be staked to an East-facing wall

edit: beaten to the stop sign

I disagree, Tremeres and their blood magic are pretty much the most important clan in the Camarilla (aside from those bureaucratic Ventrues who have little to no way of enforcing their power).
