I saw this one off-topic thread for venting. It was shut down for obvious reasons. However, many people felt better after venting and many other people thought it was funny reading some of the posts. So basically, here's my idea, A Venting Group. What do you think? It would be a great help to many people who just need to get something off their chest or could be for people to just say what's n their minds. There would most certainly have to be some sort of disclaimer saying something along the lies of "Posts in this group may contain harsh language. Enter only if you are comfortable with that" or something. But I think a forum for venting would be good for people. So, your opinions? This would also help to move some of the whining in the threads somewhere you never have to visit if you choose not to.

If by 'Venting Forum', you mean something like deviantART's Complaints forum, then I'd say it'd work out, if pulled off correctly. Despite the Complaints forum being the epicenter of trolling on the site.

A group would be slightly better, but a venting forum is just bound to brew bad feelings. It's be like dumping nasty things in one spot that could come back to haunt people in the future.

No, it might work better as a group. So try asking about that, i dont think that many people are aware that we have groups now. Also there is enough whining already around here, lets not encourage it.

EDIT: Also i would advise, if you indeed look into a group, calling it the "self help" group.
That is the beauty of it. Some of the whining on here would shift the group(yes I agree, group is a much better idea) and if you don't want to read it, you don't have to. It would cut down on some whining that appears in threads(hopefully) making the serious threads(i.e. not the vent group) a more enjoyable less whiny place to visit. Your thoughts?

The reason people vent on the forums is because they know that someone will read it. They want attention. If you make a group for it, they won't use it, because they want someone to pay attention to them.

Good idea, no way to execute it properly.

Unfortunately, even the high mentality of the Escapist forums cannot have a venting section without it turning into a flame war. Undoubtedly, one of the first threads that are going to be made will be entitled "I hate Jesus" and everyone will go bat fuck crazy. It's happened before. Many threads that have been made like this have turned into massive flame sessions. I wish we could live in a world where people can have civilized debates, but people will abuse this power and make offensive threads just to find people to argue with. *Disclaimer* I do not, I repeat, do NOT, hate Jesus. He is my Lord and Savior.

That happens a lot. However some people just need to write it down somewhere, it's always possible that it might work, improbable, but possible.

Sure thing go for it, join the creating group and make your suggestion to the mods. Like i said name it the "self help" group and not the venting group it might sound less troublesome that way.
Do you know f a single mod that won't immediately throw the idea out unless I have a reasonable about of supporters?

Um it really depends, just throw it out there and give it the best presentation you can. I could tell you who not to pitch it to, but I don't like to mention names...
Well I can certainly appreciate why, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I've never had the need, when I get stressed I usually play a game to cool me off. In High School GTA 3 saved me from going insane, for some reason students at my school just didn't like the quiet artist in the back.

Here you go my good man [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/User-Groups-Administration-Office-click-to-apply]

Just sign up for that and pitch your story on there, it will be reviewed by mods and in a few days you will either be admin/owner of your new group or not.
Hmm..thanks. I don't want to sound like a dick, but this is the first nice thing that I'VE seen you do. Usually indifference is what I see. So, again, thank you.

Really? Have i been mean to you before? I guess cos your not a cute girl...lol, I'm actually quite nice once you understand my sense of humor...then again i could have just told you to kindly f-off :).
Nothing of the sort. I just haven't seen anything definable as 'nice' and 'nice' only. I have also never seen you be mean. Neutrality is I think the best way to express it.

Can't people vent at their house and not online?

venting at home includes venting to someone that knows me and this might cause consequences. venting on a forum where no one knows you in real life cuts all strings. and you are truly free to say exactly how you feel about something.

Everyone likes venting.

Not a lot of people like being vented at.

Unless you are listening to the venting with the hope of sleeping with the venter... its pretty low on the list of things to do in a day.

Good idea on paper.

Theory:
Less venting in general forums, more venting in group.

Practice:
More venting.

Also, mark it "highly flammable"

Take a look for yourself [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.125922#2636245]

There are people who would do this and much worse if given the opportunity.
