They both have their advantages. The whole stat system, gang wars, the connection with other games in the GTA III era, the story, and the amount of land involved made me like San Andreas.

I really like the property system and the atmosphere in Vice City, however. And the story here also has more going for it than GTA III.

SA was just too big and confusing where as vice city was perfect size wise. also CJ was a dick bag and had nothing going for him at all. also, LANCE VANCE! coolest side kick in any game ever.

Vice City was way too 80's for me, that plus it was bugged up in places I prefer not to talk about. San Andreas wasn't and while I can tell I would have enjoyed Vice City more than San Andreas story-wise I just couldn't get over getting into a car, trying to turn left only to find out cars don't have steering wheels in that city and just drive straight off into the ocean. Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with GTA: SA.

San Andreas was my favorite GTA by far, mainly because it has an actual story. I mean, I get that the main pull of GTA is to kill stuff, blow stuff up, and just basically break every law known to man. Yet, SA let you do all that and still fit in a legit story. Plus, I loved CJ, it was nice to play a character with a personality... and who could talk
It had story...that made little sense after leaving the first part. When I was doing the train hijacking thing or whatever, I stopped and went to myself "How the hell did I end up here!?"

San Andreas lets you do more, swimming, and custom clothes was nice, but Vice City was more interesting, funny, and I liked the setting and people better. Maybe also cause I prefer cheesy 80's music over rap (though it did have a kick ass rock station with the odd hippy girl)
Vice City to me was just more fun, plus that guy with the talk show was fun to listen to. Oh, and Infernus. A billion in Vice, 3 in SA. (car)

The swimming dynamic in VC. Or more importantly the lack of it and having to deal with boats.

Bloody annoying. VC with the San An engine would be an awesome game.

I liked VC better. The only game that I like that had a "gangsta" theme to it was Saints Row (both of em) because it was just so damned fun. Meh, maybe if SA had insurance fraud, i woulda liked it. =P

Vice City was boring. I liked the city though.

SA is away better than 4. It has planes and Jetpacks. Motherfucking Jetpacks.

Well, Vice City was fun. San Andreas was fun. Vice City had an interesting storyline. San Andreas had more stuff. Vice City was a Scarface hommage. San Andreas was a gangster story.

I still prefer the atmosphere of Vice City though. It was fun. The beaches were attracting. The humour in the game was awesome.

Vice City wins my vote.

Wait, I've just contributed to a VS thread....

I just recently bought the GTA Classics pack off Steam, it included GTA 1, 2, 3, Vice City and San Andreas. I beat VC and went on to start SA and I LOVED VC, but I'm "meh" at best as far as SA goes. Does anyone share this opinion? Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the lone hero Tommy Vercetti taking over everything to CJ who is the butt of most of the jokes and has partners on just about every damn mission that you have to watch, drag along, wait for and count on to kill people while you drive.
Idonno, for me I like Sa because it has some of the best mods ever. *wink* *wink*

I hated SA, it really was filth compared to VC.

The location of vice city was stunning (fine the graphics were never groundbreaking, but in the day they were not ugly, SA felt like a massive step backward).

The gunplay was clunky and boring in VC, but still somehow fun enough to not overly bother me, in SA they managed to kill it by trying to fix it (the leveling system was pants on head retarded, it's a GTA game, I have no intention of ever grinding skills in a GTA game).

It was a real gangster/mafia scenario in VC, SA felt, to me at least, like another faggy 50 cent "my niggerz ***** ho please!!" thing, which is at best a stupid steriotype to reinforce. The whole homies thing bothered me as well.

Both had fairly decent soundtracks, but VC was had the best radio stations if I recall correctly. Everything just fit, it was the 80s so you'd be listening to peace sells or video killed the radio star. The SA one wasn't bad by any means, it just wasn't as good (one of the few things they did right in SA as far as I'm concerned).

The map for VC was infinately better than the SA one, SA was such a big space with nothing in it.

VC and heres why, Radio Stations/sound> than SA, SA was too big and many of the non urban areas where just pointless and simply added lots of needless drive times to missions. In fairness the games are similar San Andreas is just a larger less well written version of Vice City. One thing I know is that they are both way more fun to play than GTAIV

My thoughts exactly, I was in the gym(in game, I'm too lazy for a real gym) running on the treadmill thinking "What the hell? Am I playing a MMORPG or something, why do I have to level up my running?". VC=work of art, SA=cheap Wal-Mart brand knockoff
