I love Vinyl. I think the sound is fantastic. It's got such a warm vibe to it. If you listen to a CD or MP3, it just doesn't sound as nice as the crackles in vinyl...

On topic- Vinyl is better for scratching/mixing, you can't mix mp3's or CD's as easily
CD's if I want to listen to one album in particular
MP3 player otherwise.
Ugh, okay. Vinyl are these old black printed discs that you use in record players. They are the BEST things around for sound, and are still printed now. I suggest you find your parents old records, see what they have and listen to them.triskutt900 said:im not jokin i dont really listen to music that muchRadelaide said:PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE JOKING!?triskutt900 said:mp3

For those who don't get it- lining a vinyl up at the right point is known as "jogging" the record into place.
MP3s can sound just as good as a DVD copy, you just need to get them at a high bit-rate so as not to lose the quality.searanox said:To dispel some myths: vinyl records do not necessarily have better sound quality than CDs, but what they do have is a warmer and more natural sound due to the analogue characteristics of the medium. Many audiophiles grew up listening to vinyl and it has become the "de facto" standard for them, so they encourage others to use it. The warm hiss and occasional popping is nostalgic for many.
MP3s don't sound all that bad when used with portable devices. However, if you have an even remotely decent set of speakers or headphones, especially at lower bitrates and going through a preamp, MP3s will sound like absolute dogshit compared to the original source. Most people never get that far because of our obsession with portable media players (many people listen to nothing but their iPods, sadly), so it's not horrible, but the move towards MP3 for its smaller file size and popularity is a huge problem for the music industry. I am frightened that it will become the only method of music distribution; as someone who appreciates high-fidelity sound, lossless encoding like FLAC is the obvious choice, and anything less is a terrible compromise. I use MP3 for my own portable player, but I would never dream of listening to music on my computer through my Sennheiser HD 280 Pros in a lossy format. I've been hoping for years that formats like DVD would catch on for distribution of audio in a high quality format, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Convenience rules out over quality, as always. Fucking worthless human population.
