So the election is finally here. Who are you voting for?

I actually came up with a little game for me and my friends. We all see how long we can go without finding out who won. This is gonna' be hillarious.

I've seen a ton of Facebook statuses dedicated to promoting a Barack vote today, though pretty much all my friends are Canadian, so I don't know what that says about 'em.

Personally I think Barack is the lesser of two bad choices. I only hate McCain because he puts out a new seemingly unfair attack ad every 2 days.

Obama, mostly because I'm not a believer in the trickle down theory implemented by the Bush Admin which McCain seems to be sticking too. He's a good guy, but he's putting his trust in a theory that I don't think works very well.

Are you talking about "Trickle Down Economics"? Because if you are that was implemented by President Ronald Regan and his cabinet.

I don't make more than 250,000 a year and I never believed in the free market anyways. Guess who I picked?

Felons can vote, can't they? That would discrimination to bar them from it.

You break the rules, you give up some rights. Makes sense to me.

Right sorry, brain fart, I sometimes forget that it was a Reagan policy because I wasn't alive for that and lets face it, its just become so much easier to blame Bush these days, even though I kinda feel bad about it every time I do. The man hasn't had a good 8 years in office.

That doesn't make sense. Sure, some rights should be taken away, like owning weapons, and it should be shown on all your papers and histories, but not to be allowed to vote? That directly affects you and your future. I can understand maybe if you're still in prison you can't vote, but once out you should be allowed to immediately.

Bah, all my friends' statuses are dedicated to McCain. I suppose it's to be expected in South Carolina.

I've already been out to cast my vote for Obama.

I agree. If they let you out of prison, it effectively means that you, in the eyes of the law, are rehabilitated to a degree where you can become a functional member of society again. Thats why we have revolving door prison policies. Once you're out, you're a functional member of society, no matter what your past was, so you should be allowed to vote like all other functional members of society.

I voted for Bob Barr.

I do not believe any of these losers should be in office. Let people do what they want as long as it does not infringe on my rights.

Not all states bar felons from voting, only about a dozen do. The logic behind it is that a felony is a serious crime and it shows you lack good judgment. So, if it's already established that you lack good judgment and some degree of common sense why should you be allowed a say in the course the nation takes?

In some states that bar felons from voting it's not even all felons, just a list of certain ones that disqualify you from voting. Again, because you've established that you lack good judgment by committing the crime in the first place.

Only 2 states in the country(Vermont and Maine) allow inmates to vote, while 36 states bar anyone on parole for any crime from voting, and 31 bar any person on probation for any crime from voting.

At the moment there are movements started in some states that bar felons from voting to give them back that right after a certain period of time following their release from prison. Maybe they'll succeed, maybe they won't.

I'm a bit on the fence on the issue. The state I live in bars all felons from voting, which I think is a little to the extreme. I have no problem with all felons losing the right to vote for a period of time following release, say 5 to 10 years. You did something bad, you don't deserve to just walk out of prison and get everything back immediately.

By the same token, I do feel that some felons should never be given their right to vote back. Rapists, murders, those who prey on children...some of those I don't even feel deserve the right to continue breathing, so they sure as hell don't deserve the right to be voting and determining things that will have an effect on my life.
