So I've recentley gotten back into Warhammer 40k after about four years and by god I miss it. All the mythology and the strategies, games, books, etc. is just so overwhelming with awesomeness. So I ask you this Escapist, what do you remember/ miss, or whatever else you may feel about Warhammer or 40k? I just hope they put Tyranids or Tau in the MMO and that Space Marine (game) will kick ass.

You do realize I had to choose the last option, right?

Anyways, I've always been intrigued by Warhammer, yet never found a reason to join.

My mum couldn't afford the figurines when I was a kid and I'm terrible at painting so I just got into it through the books, Slayer series, Ciaphus Cain and Space Wolf. Might even get some more today before all the book stores close down in Australia.

Warhammer? Those were some pretty good games, but whenever I remember them I always get a little..

BLOOD FOR THE BLOO- *cough*hack*phlegm*

*clears throat*

Excuse me.

As I was saying, I dug the hell out of the first Dawn of War games, so much so I bought a bunch of the fluff books on the various races and such just to read for enjoyment. The second game is... egh... but props to Relic for trying to move the genre forward. The vanilla Warhammer looks cool too but 40k has missile launchers as standard sidearms for its grunts, so obviously that takes the cake.

I've played the tabletop version on occasion, but a life-threatening drug habit is somewhat cheaper to maintain so I've not gone too deep into it myself.

Personally, I see it as way too expensive, though I do like to paint the guys.
I prefer historical figures, anyways, painting samurai or redcoats strikes me as more interesting than space marines.

I never understood the desire to go into the table top game when the PC game (40K btw) is animated and (in my opinion) much more interesting

I see what you did there...

I love the games too, but you can't go as in depth as you can with painting the figures and it is as Aun'va wishes.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, 1st edition, was the first RPG I've ever played. And I still consider it to be the best system I've played (2nd ed is better, though; haven't tried 3rd).

I've also LARPed Dark Heresy twice. Love the setting but don't have the money to buy the rulebook (it hasn't been published here, so it's pretty expensive). Or the time to play, really. I wish they'd make it into a video game.

As for computer games, I like to play Dawn of War skirmish just to watch the armies and listen to the flavour.

Oh, and did I mention that the miniatures are waaay too costly? Also, I see why the painting would be appealing, but it's not really my thing.

Never really got into Warhammer, but I did enjoy painting the free figurines a half-decade ago. I shed a tear for my late local Games Workshop, which closed its doors in March.

I prefer the 40k video games. Getting into the table top gaming looks too expensive and would require me to leave my home.

While my time with the tabletop game yielded some of the fondest memories of my life (all night games at the comic shop, everyone hopped up on Mountain Dew and praying the owner won't get tired and throw us out to finish the next day, etc), it's ungodly how expensive it is, and this ultimately drove me away from the hobby aspect of the universe. I still collect some of the rulebooks, I can't help it, and I play all the games they release from GW franchises (including Blood Bowl, which is hilarious). Looking forward to the MMO so I can waste away for hours pretending to be a Space Marine.

Always torn between Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy. In principle, I want to prefer the latter, because ?future fantasy? has been a real pet peeve of mine ever since I grew out of Star Wars (exception granted to BioWare and Obsidian), but in practice, I want to be a Bonesinger.

Only read the HH series now, gave up on the game ages ago.

I like the more heroic age of the Great Crusade.
