Since there seem to be more than a few warhammer/warhammer 40k gamers here, I wanted to shake things up a bit. If you could live in the era of your choice, would you want to claim a native creature for a pet? Come on, who wouldn't want a pet powder monkey, or maybe a little librarian's cherub?

Just for a few examples,

Warhammer Fantasy:

Ogre Kingdom Gnoblars - They're like goblins, only travel-sized! And they can be dressed up like a ninja, Pirate, etc.

Orcs and Goblins Snotlings - A good pet for younger kids. If it accidently goes to Snotling heaven, there's lots more of them.

Lizardmen Skinks - lots of kids want a snake or lizard for a pet. This is basically the same thing...except sentient...and the size of a child.

Warhammer 40K:

Necron Scarabs - Think of it like one of those tamagachi virtual pet thingies from back in the day.

Tyranid Ripper - It's just so bloody cute! (I'm a 'nid player...sorry, I love my little grubblies!)

Tau Gun Drone - Think of it like a high-tech frisbee. Also, it can act as a highly-efficient nanny...what kid's gonna argue with something armed with twin-linked pulse carbines?

Common to both eras:

Squigs - They're so adorable!!! Who wouldn't want a pet with razor-sharp teeth and a tendancy to bite anything remotely near it?!

Nurglings - I'm sorry, but personally I find these things absolutely hillarious. It'd be kinda like a plague-infested monkey.

Does anyone else think I have a decent idea? Or have I just fully descended into madness?

Gun drone absolutely.

"this is my dog, Rex. He can catch a Frisbee!"
"This is my gun drone XZ55#1. He can rip a Frisbee into 500 pieces!"

Reminds me of a web comic I saw of the a Gun Drone from Portal used to mind a baby... yeah it got shot.
"who's there?.. there you are!" *Blam blam blam!

I voted for the Squig. Useful for giving you more punch in combat or for food.

after thinking about it for a while, I'd say the squig would be my #1 choice (sorry nurgling). Not only are they hilarious and deadly, but there's so many types of squig. For example, balding men could buy a hair squig! It gives you a full head of hair instantly, and if someone asks you if you're wearing a hair piece, you can take it off and have it attack him!

If I could, I would sit here just going "squiqsquiqsquiqsquiqsquiq" for half an hour, but that would be a bad idea. I rather like the little gits, it must be said.

I want a Night Goblin as a pet. I'd train it to feed other peoples' pets fungus brew.

I want a Scarab, perhaps if I give it enough time it can build me a monolith or my own necron body.

I voted "other". I want a servo skull. It can fly around with me and act as a PDA, cell phone, watch dog, etc. It would be awesome.

I'll have to go with the gun drone. I could sit on it and it will take me places.....and then blow stuff up :)

Well if we're talking large scale pets.... Squiggoth.

Just leading it round (well, across) the park with a really long lead... Watching its Zzap cannon disintrigrate frisbees you throw for it.

lol I hadn't even thought of large-scale pets yet. I'm still having trouble house-training my squig (or preventing it from eating anything within a foot of it, for that matter). I'm not sure I'd be ready for a larger pet, but if I was allowed one, I'd probably have to go with a Harridan. Not only does it come with lots of little pet gargoyles for me to play with, but I wouldn't have to pay for airlines anymore, either!

Careful with Rat Ogres. It's hard to keep those buggers on a leash...or your arm holding the leash in it's socket. Be sure to not let them play with the rats of Pestilens...you don't want him to have to go to the vet.

I'd say stick with trolls. They're really slow, so they won't go running off on you. Also, they don't have fur, so you don't have to brush them or worry about them shedding. And with regeneration, they never have to go to the vet! The only downside is if they get a hairball...hope you weren't too fond of that carpet...or the floor underneath it...or your basement.

Hmmm, air-borne pets, I'd go with a Dark Elf beastmaster's Manticore. Never known a manticore in myth have wings, but I'm pretty sure it does in fantasy. And it looks rather nice too ^^

Well, I say nice. More nasty in a very cool manner.

Because I'm a dude.
As am I....but Servo Skulls have no tongue. What use would it be?
