i was playing Shadow of Colossus today and realized that the graphics didn't bother me, at all. after playing the game a little longer i realized that i really liked all my PS3/Xbox games. the only thing i asked for was the ability to do more within those worlds. now im not complaining about the current gen graphics. this is just how i feel. how about you guys, do you feel the same as i do? if not can you explain why? im not trying to start an argument or anything like that. just looking for opinions, cause it's always nice to know what other people think.

It really depends on the game. Some older games don't age well at all, just like how some new games just look generally awful from the start (Gears of War).

My most played game is one who's entire base graphics library is ASCII characters. How do you think I feel about graphics?

Yes, the previous generations graphics were serviceable (as in it they actually look like what they it should look like, instead of a pile of polygons like the psone, and saturn days), but nowadays i think companies are increasing the graphics for merely cosmetic reasons rather than practical reasons.

Also, don't rule out the Gamecube, and Dreamcast, they also had good graphics.

Especially Metroid Prime on the Cube, that looks even better than some of the newer games that are out today.

It's nice when you have good graphics, but I don't really care if it doesn't it's about the game not the graphics. Sometimes graphics are decisive though, but only when it's there to set a mood like in Limbo. Graphics don't have to look good, but have to have atmosphere.

I thought they were great when they first came out. When I first got a PS2 I was like "Dude, holy shit!" and went back to PSX games and was "Meh." When I got a 360 I was like "Dude, holy shit!" and went back to PS2 games and was "Meh."

It depends on how used you get to the current graphics I think.

Nah, I'd much rather have more processing power even if it's not being used completely. Xbox & PS2 just don't cut it for me anymore.

I really only care about graphics if they hinder my progress. Like "I couldn't tell that was a door" is bad.

Clicked no by accident. Take one from no and add it to yes.

I still play Fable: The Lost Chapters (even though I've exausted it) and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on a regular basis. Graphics don't bother me a bit. Still play 2D pixel-art games now and then.

SOCOM 2 still looks great, in my opinion. Still one of my favorite games, along with Civ4. Neither of them are graphically advanced, but they're still tons of fun and the graphics are fine with me.

EDIT: I also put yes, for the record. I can't really think of any games that I put away on terms of graphics.

Hell, I was more than satisfied with the 32-bit graphics of the PS1 era. I thought they were a little overboard at the time, actually...
But I did start on the Atari 2600.

Probably not, there's over 7 billion people in the world.

Was i? It depneded on the game and how other ones were doing. But graphics to me are the weakest in the gaming sense equation of immersion. As long as I can see and they dont impeed my progress I'm fine, though they dont hurt to have htem be better.

Good at the time. Shadow of the Colossus is still pretty good, but just moving the camera in the main temple proves it could benefit from some anti-aliasing.

I don't mind obvious polygons, but twitching pixels are a bit annoying.

I've got one

Final Fantasy 7

It looks like someone sicked all over your tv when you play it.

I think the early 3d games are the worst when it comes to graphics, 2D however is timeless no matter if it's 16 bit, 8 bit, or even 1 bit (like the ZX 80's).

There are games from last gen that look great. Then there are games that were not so great.

All I can really say is gaming isn't about necesity or good enough. Gaming is a hobby, an indulgence. Why not want the best? Why settle for satisfied when you can be blown away? We don't want to pick up a game for $60 and say "That game was alright." We want to pick up a game and go up to our friends, punch them in the face and say "Holy @%$#, that was awesome!" and talk about it for a month. I believe we say "That game looks like it's going to be awesome." (or something along those lines), not "Well this game looks satisfactory."

But if you're talking about would I be satisfied with some of the graphics of past gen games if they had been released this gen? Yeah, sure. Games like Shadow of the Colossus and Resident Evil look better than a lot of launch titles for the 360 so why not?

Okami, Jade Empire, the PS2 Final Fantasy games, Fable, all look as good as some tiles that were released this generation of consoles due to good art design and not being technically horrible graphic wise. I do think that the PSX 3D games did age pretty horribly though but not the PS2/Xbox/gamecube systems.

I find preferring the graphics in Jade Empire to many parts of Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect one for instance due to preferring the art style and general world more than the latter two games. (May be a bit biased here- Jade Empire is my favorite Bioware game even though it has the simplest rpg mechanics of any of their games mostly because I like the setting and atmosphere.)

Definitely agree. Final Fantasy 7 does look like shit today yet Chrono Trigger still looks beautiful.

Edit: oops misread the post, the graphics aren't bad enough to the point where I can't play FF7. , it is the random battles and loading times and already beating the game at least once a while ago.

Style is more important to me than actual quality. I prefer GTA VC and SA to the recent one, just because there are colors other than gray and brown (in addition to it being shite). I am also quite fond of Minecraft's visuals. No current game can top the Crysis games in quality, of course, but there are a few games like Jade Empire that I prefer just because they are so stylized. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for greater graphical quality, but we're currently at an impasse in development. The consoles out are hideously underpowered compared to even entry level gaming PCs, and the 1080p of modern TVs will not be surpassed anytime soon. I would rather see larger worlds with much more interactivity than a higher polygon count on models, but I generally prefer current gen graphics to the past, sans for a few non-gray/brown exceptions.

Also, holy shit, does this look eerily like "genocide hebrew" to anybody else? I never knew captcha was so racist.
