Sonic wasn't exactly enticing me in 2D, back then it was more the comics, animated series's, and Sonic Adventure 1 that helped me get obsessed with it.

As for Jandau's question, there ARE good 3D Sonic games...Sonic Adventure 1, 2, Sonic Heroes, AND Sonic RIders...are all good 3D Sonic games, despite their flaws, because they focus on speed, story telling, and give me more people to care about besides Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles...After these four came out, we had Shadow the Hedgehog...Which was a case of "Good concept, horrible execution", and it started going downhill from there.

There's two things wrong with this thread.
First, there's not much to discuss, and second, do we even have to answer?

The first Sonic game on the Dreamcast, Sonic Adventure was solid. ... all subsequent titles have been a slow descent into mediocrity (and beyond!).

... and well, if you want to get technical about it, Sonic 3D Blast (for the Genesis/Saturn) wasn't terrible at the time of its release. Though I would argue that it hasn't aged particularly well.

I've chewed on mouth ulscers and had a better time than playing a 3D Sonic game.
If they ditched all this 3D rubbish and concentrated on a kickass looking 2D, back to basics sonic, I mean properly bringing him back to his roots (sonic 1,2,3, & knuckles), suped up the graphics and concentrated on insane level design. perhaps with 3D graphics (New super Mario Brothers style) but side scrolling and next gen.
Who wouldn't buy it?

The 3D Sonic games are okay, but the 2D ones worked the best, they were the most fun and they pretty much are what people are begging for. (some group is actually remaking Sonic 2 in HD)
