As you can tell by my picture I am a total Watchmen fanboy. I read the book and loved it. I practically wet my pants in excitement when I first saw the trailer, and I took all my friends to see it for my 16th birthday. I of course loved the movie, but was rather dismayed when I saw the critical review. Only a few critics (Roger Ebert, Moviebob) gave the film the rave review that (I think) it deserved. Everyone else either gave it average or negative reviews. So I want to know, what's your opinion of it?

It was a good movie they left out a couple parts that were in the comics but other than that it was pretty much a really good movie version of the comics.

i never pay attention to the critics, they all don't like the same thing and frankly a lot of them try to judge movies on whether or not they are better than stuff like Seven Samurai and Citizen Kane.

Roger Ebert i think is one of the few that actually gets movies and will base his reviews based on what type of movie it is and compare it to others in the genre.

The film didn't do the book justice, but I thought the actors did a superb job with all of the characters.

Honestly, I wasn't a huge fan of the movie as compared to the comic for a single reason: it feels far too upbeat to be the Watchmen I read. Think about the soundtrack: deeply nostalgic and elating when the material is anything but. This is a movie that could've benefitted from a purely instrumental soundtrack like Blade Runner.

Of equal importance, Zack Snyder filmed the Watchmen as though filming a comic book. I can see his logic, but he reduced the pathos of the characters and the world to a cartoonish spree of violence when filming this with less stylization would've better conveyed the intensity of the comic. Instead, it felt thematically confused to me.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie, and it's certainly worth enjoying to your heart's content. Knock yourself out. But if you slid me the comic and the movie, I'd pick the comic every single time.

The whole problem is that the critics that said it wasn't good were expecting something like, X:MEN or Spiderman. I.E. a SFX crammed 2 hour assault on the senses with very little story, and absolutely no coherency whatsoever. However what they got was a 3 hour intelligent drama that actually dared to show super heroes as flawed people. A drama that challenged them to actually think for once. So they didn't know what to make of it, and also they showed a glowing blue penis, so they had to make a huge deal about that, because apparently they've never seen a fucking National Geographic documentary before.

I thought it was alright. Was far too long, slightly generic and lacking in any real memorable action scenes. I enjoyed it, but not as much as other films i saw this year.

I liked it quite a bit. Rorschach in particular was spot on. Changing the ending didn't really bug me, though a certain omission in the theatrical cut did (fixed in the Director's cut).

I loved it. It showed the dark side of heroes, something that's always interested me.

It's funny when I first saw it, i was in awe....didn't really like it as much.

The second time I watched it, I found myself wanting to watch it a third time

Third time? Liked it, started to collect some things that I missed from both the comic and the movie, and now I just love the entire series.

It was pretty good. Hell knows it could have been a lot worse. I was still a little sad to not see them try to create the giant alien. Could have been really cool and twisted.

The film essentially was everything the comic book was, and then some.

The filmmakers did perfectly in introducing the mainstream movie audience to the feel of the Watchmen universe.

I think it's as close to the source material as a film version of Watchmen can possibly get. The changes that were made, like updating certain costume designs and storyline elements, seemed totally justified to me, and as I've commented many times before, I think the film's ending actually works better than the comic's ending.

I understand that Moore's intention with the original ending was to assault the reader with extremely violent imagery to underscore the horror/justice of what Ozymandias had done. The general opinion seems to be that "vaguely nuclear energy explosions" just doesn't pack the same punch as streets filled with torn apart cadavers, but I'm inclined to disagree. We live in an age when total nuclear annihilation isn't only possible, but actually kind of likely. The film's ending is more relevant today by a mile than the original ending would have been.

So yeah, I liked it a lot. Bit over the top at times, kinda campy, but I guess that's the point, and the message is still there.
