Sen's Fortress, because that's when I stopped playing.

My roommate made it all the way to the end though, and by god, it got worse. Reminded me of this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/9166-Dark-Souls

Tomb of the Giants kicked my ass to no end because I don't have the cast light spell!
AHHHHHHHHH. I fell off the FUCKING edges so MANY times!!!
AnGeR!
You could also use the Skull Lantern or Sunlight Maggot.
Skull Lantern you say?
Intriguing, I stopped playing Dark Souls (Partly because of the tomb of giants, partly because of Skyrim) But If I can get one of those things I can continue, thanks.

Tomb of giants. I'll admit it, I'm afraid of the dark. That part was a nightmare. Also seeing Nito for the first time was one of the scariest moments for me in my gaming life. (I don't play horror games)

Im gonna go with the tomb of giants but Sen's fortress is almost as frustrating. The problem with Tomb of giants were those canine like skeletons. There was more then a few times where they consistantly did the same lunging multi attack that would either break my guard and kill me or shove me off a cliff.

In the case of Sen's fortress it seems like I cant get through that place without at least 100 poisoned arrows. Getting out of the place is sometimes even harder, even when you've unlocked the shortcut

Would I be called a major failure if I said I still haven't completed a run through of the game and I got it three days before it released in the USA and Europe?

Mostly due to having to reroll a Pyromancer after my thief turned out to be too weak.

For me the hardest area at the moment is the Archives. I cannot get through the area just after the elevator. :/

Also Sen's Fortress was a ***** until I found that bonfire and felt the ingame gods were watching over my character at last... until I got crushed by an exploding boulder.

Also the tree leading down to Ash Lake was evil, those frogs didn't half curse my mancer. But I was lucky the Hydra glitched when I got to the actual lake scoring me 20000 souls.

Archives. I was tilted when I got there and didn't take my own advice of setting the controller down when you can no longer play cautiously and calmly. I missed the shortcut back into the archives when I got to Crystal Caves several times as well so I spent a lot of time just running through enemies trying to bonfire rush from the very beginning the area. It's just not an area you want to play impatiently and the mages and invisible floor became that much worse for it.

The real killer was getting to Seeth with 0 flasks and almost killing it straight out, then making one mistake which caused me to fail at the level for another infinite forevers. I was to angry with coming that close to the boss to drop it and put myself through honest hours of further torture playing both aggressive and stupid. The game is real easy until you let it get you on edge, then the whole thing comes down on top of you. I played that stupid stretch of the game for like 7 hours all told and the boss was easy when I finally did get there with any way to heal myself even once.

Unfortunately I like to grind in the game and that got me a lot of souls. Maxed Pyromancy, gold hemmed armor, stone armor, enough strength to wield a stone sword effectively.
That combination of things makes quite a bit of the game a joke, mainly bosses.

For all of that though I still haven't finished it, stopped playing my PS3 and just haven't gotten around to doing the rest in months.

I feel this video pretty much sums up most people's (including myself) experiences with the game:

Abyss, since Blight Town was out of the poll.
Stuck there on my NG+. Died on the tree-thing boss, and on my way to him, so damn often that I grew sick of the game.
Next time I attempt it I won't take the short cut, but those fucking fire demon beast monster thingies are a pain in the ass. Easy to get down with bow and arrows, though it takes forever. >.<

got the mechanics down fairly well, go into sewers and defeat the 'wtf' gaping dragon. Acquire King Dragon Axe weapon thing... does massive damage. Use drake sword for the time being. Go to forest area. Farm da ghosts over and over and over. get strength up. Use Axe like boss. Realize I put to much stats on things I don't needs. Levels start giving smaller amounts on stats. My resistance is only average. I'm still getting pwned by wolfy dude in forest.

There needs to be a poll option for "This entire freakin' game tortured me from the start of Firelink Shrine."

However, Undead Burg. It was the first main area of the game and it took me ages to figure out which path I was meant to take to progress in. Things got easier once I got the Drake Sword though.

...But now I'm stuck at the Chaos witch, with no humanity to call in help. :/

Your suffering was delicious.
On topic, New Londo for one reason: there aren't any bonfires. Trying to get all the items and getting to the boss is just a pain. And it is the second hardest/hardest boss in the game, so you will have to go from Firelink Shrine to there a lot. And fuck Darkwraiths.
There's a shortcut between lower New Londo and The Valley of the Drakes, you can skip all of the ghosts except for two.

OT: The Archives, especially since I thought you were supposed to beat Seath in the first area, I kept going back. The Channelers seem to love teleporting all around the place as well.

Out of your options, probably Anor Londo, due to S&O and getting used to the attack patterns of the Knights and Bat Wing Demons.

Though all the areas I went through went fairly smoothly (odd, as I expected a lot more trouble), until I got to the Demon Ruins. Lost Izalith was a lot easier in comparison (excluding the Bounding Demons), but I just couldn't beat the Demon Firesage for ageeees. First boss that had me pausing out of sheer desperation since probably S&O.

Lol. I crushed the fuck out of Firesage demon. Beat him in my first run everytime.

Now the Stray demon on the otherhand.. for some reason is the only fight I can never beat on my first time. The hardest boss for me. Fatboy+Slim were easier to solo with no armor than fucking Stray demon.

Tomb of the Giants. Fuck fighting giant skeletons in the dark. I tried it a bunch of times, failed miserably, and determined that there was no way that I was going to be able to kill those guys before getting knocked off an edge. So I ran on past them hoping not to die. I finally exhaled as I got to the guy down there and started talking to him, then BAM!

One of the giant skeletons followed me and kicked me and the other dude down into a pit. That dude got pissed off at me for this, obviously deciding that it was my fault. Had to kick his ass and those of a bunch of other random enemies I'd never encountered before so I could eventually find a bonfire down there.

Then there was much rejoicing.

Also worth mentioning is that bit in Anor Londo where you have to run along the balcony things whilst archers shoot massive arrows at you that knock you off.

And the Stray Demon... fuck him. He took about 20 attempts.

Other than those bits it was mostly smooth sailing.

New Londo, or to be more specific, trying to farm the Darkwraiths there for items.

I swear, the game knows what I'm trying to farm and just won't goddamn drop the items I want.

There was one run where I wanted a Dark Hand; I farmed, farmed and farmed and it just didn't drop. I made a lot of runs. It just didn't drop. I eventually gave up.

Then on my most recent character, where I decided to farm Titanite slabs --and yes, the slabs also just won't fucking drop--, I got a fucking Dark Hand on my very first Darkwraith kill for that goddamn run.

In any case, I don't have much trouble with the game itself anymore. Except farming, random drops are annoying.

The fact that I love the Art Style but the whole "HARDEST GAIME EVER" reputation puts me off!

I'm surprised about the issues with the Stray Demon, it's one of the few that i one shotted first play through. Sif is another i found a little retardedly easy. Firesage demon on the other had, i had a few issues with, kept getting stuck on stupid trees and branches and misc crapola on the ground.

Most frustrating boss though, seemed to be the Bed of Chaos... only boss fight that all my deaths seemed cheap... ugh... lol.. but, then on NG+ i one shot it by sheer fluke.
