fun.

why is fun not an option?
you can have fun based on any thing
which of those options makes you have the most fun

I think that's why "fun" isn't an option
none of those actually. although content could be acounted for anything.
story, gameplay, graphics, music, socializing.

it's all content but that's still not the reason why i game.
and that was the question.
and to answer: it is for the sheer fun i experience whilst gaming, fun is not limited to one element of any game. it doesn't even have to have an element.

that's why fun is such a complex term to use.
and will always be the only answer why people game. (or escapism, but that also comes back to fun in an indirect way)

gaming has always been a choice to do and people choose to do it because it is fun.
but i'm sure you catch my drift after myself repeating the same sentence for 15 times in other words.
:D

everything comes back to fun in an indirect way
but this poll is broken
content is the overwhelmingly "DUH" answer.

I honestly like playing games for the challenge and the competition behind it. Say what you want, but I enjoy competitive multiplayer and I play to win. That doesn't mean I'll turn into some raging asshole when I lose, but it motivates you to play better.

Fun. Unless were talking about Gears of War.. Then its because I must continue the story because I'm totally hooked on it and I'm a big fan. I also like fifa as well, which is coming out on Friday, can't wait.

I voted visuals, simply because I love games that make a good visual impression on me and that is usually why I continue playing the game so far the content sinks inn. I am, have always been and probably will always be a person who appreciates impressive visual feats. Then again, that does not mean I jump to the games with the highest graphics, no sir. Graphics of lower standards can be just as impressive through the creativity of the game designers as one with graphics so keen you cut your eyeballs just looking at it.

This does however mean one thing: I LOVED Mirror's Edge to death even if it rapes me on normal mode.

I play games for content, though i would be lying if i said that i dnt spend several hours of gaming time trying to get avhievements (or the best gear in FF games, or the right light saber crystals in SW games, or all the Pokemon in a Pokemon game (90% of which i don't use) etc.)

It makes me really happy to see that so many ppl on the Escapist play games for content: the fun of the experience. I don't have anything against super hard-core competitive gamers (WOW, Modern Warfare, etc.), i just feel that sometimes, that's all there is out there, and they (or you) ARE a bit intimidating (probably why i don't post on Gamespot forums, and found myself surprised at how often i end up posting here).
