Yep because we all know that the gaming community is in fact a hivemind and is not made up of millions of individual people with their own opinions and views. Did it ever occur to you that the people bitching about CoD and D3 are hold on this will blow your mind, not the same fucking people?
So you want to tell that the gaming community is free of all criticism? Because 'zey are no hivemind' they can't do any wrong and everyone else and everything else is at fault?
I honestly dont even know what to say to that. You cant seriously be that dumb, it just should not be possible.

Seeing as there is no "All of the above," option... Kinda no point in me voting. Asking somebody to pick the worst of several things he dislikes equally is rather asinine.

Though I never use gamefaqs...
I found the same thing, hence the topic. It is meant to promote thought into the subject and get people discussing which elements are worse in their opinion. In doing so I have found myself leaning more into a certain direction (gamers - albeit for different reasons). If you class food for thought and discussion to be asinine, then I am sorry to have offended your sensibilities. I was simply interested to see which way each individual in the Escapist community was leaning on the subject.

My main problem is that Sony and Microsoft are trying to push this new console generation on us when we're clearly not ready.

I'm not buying a PS4 or 7-whatever the hell, and practically nobody I know is either. I don't have $500+ dollars to spend on a shitty computer system that might not even have any games for it.

Not to mention how developers aren't going to spend more money to develop for a system which has higher expectations, but a LOWER userbase.

The economy still sucks too. Not as hard as in 2008, but still.

My fear is that due to this new generation, it'll split the consumers substantially, people that develop for the new generation won't make as much money as the old, and people that still develop for the PS3 and 360 won't make as much money as they used to. Everyone will say fuck it, and we'll crash hard.

2006/7's conversion was a different story, because awesome economy, and it might just be me, but the future looked brighter.

I went with Gamers.

Though its really a mix of Gamers, DRM and no new ideas. I don't expect people to boycott games with DRM, because I don't. But I do wish that people would stop buying every fucking call of duty over and over.

So of the 3 problems, 2 of them could be rectified by gamers if they voted with their wallets.

So fuck gamers, basically.

I hate when people call you try-hards when playing online. Yeah, I play online games to win, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that, but apparently that means I have no life... :/ I guess that falls into the "gamers" category so thats what I voted.

I want to say "no new ideas" Rather, no new ideas that a publisher is willing to risk money on. They may be willing to make small changes here and there within the structure of a game but ultimately each game within their respective genres seems to be absolutely just like the last. There are exceptions, of course, but there are various ideas that are left completely untouched. Understandably it is sometimes because it just appeals to an incredibly small amount of people and developers need to eat too.

If I had to name one single problem that's ruining modern games, I would say the attitude of Executives/Developers. I think that's what's responsible for all the reasons you've listed. DRM, microtransactions, shoddy online aspects, and derivative games come from the profit-above-all attitude that's taken over (AAA) gaming. Don't get me wrong, I understand the need to be profitable - but when a game can sell millions of copies, sell more than any other game in its franchise, and still be considered a failure than something is very wrong. I also think they're responsible for the different gaming "types." It comes from a desire to slot everyone into neat little groups that they can then advertise too.

Okay, you know what I really think... all the negativity amongst gamers these days. Industry that, industry this, blah blah blah casual dumbing-down. Gaming is generally ok but for the negative perception of gaming. Most if not all games have flaws, got to accept that. If you don't like something, don't buy it, simple as. There are plenty of fish in the sea, all you need to do is have an open mind.

The fact that I will now need three different Playstations, and it's looking like three different X-boxes if I want to be able to play all my games. That's really the only thing that bothers me about gaming.

Gamers for frequently being dumbasses about their favourite or other people's favourite games. I'm not a big fan of CoD but who the hell am I to give someone shit about playing it? I like the ME series but no one deserves to have me shout in their face about just how awesome I think it is.

And then of course, there are the dumbasses in multiplayer who act like dicks because anonymity is such a sweet shield.
