Woah, calm down, We're dealing with games, not missiles governor.
I never see much point turning games into films, because it's a bit like watching a replay. Except with extremely bad acting (Most of the time). Unless they have a new storyline, then I don't mind.
Bottom line, I don't care if you people make them, as long as I don't have to watch them~

Metal gear solid is already a movie, with brief sections of game play in between.

A splinter cell movie would be cool. Though don't know if Ironside would be able to pull it off :p
A Serious Sam movie would be fun
You could make a really good old school noir out of Hotel Dusk

Doom

Bloodrayne

Do you really want to see more?
It's evil incarnate.

And they always manage to either make a gamer focused movie that sucks to all gamers/everyone.

Or make a movie for the public which sucks/ is hated by gamers.

Though if we got a director who understands the game while knowing how to make movies properly it might work.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Settle down there a wee bit. Firstly, use the "Search" function; this thread has been made before, in many different variations as well. Also, watch out for caps lock. You may be excited about your topic, but caps lock makes it seem like you're shouting at us.

Now then as for games being turned into movies, I think that the theory doesn't work well. Video games are immersive because players control the action. However, movies rely on good storytelling and character development in order for immersion to occur.

P.S: Metal Gear Solid 4 might as well have just been a movie, seeing how long the cutscenes were :p

Games made into movies never work out. Fans of the game, or game series will always pick it apart, deciding what should, or shouldn't have been included, and complaining about how different it was from the game. It's inevitable really. Same goes for books made into movies *cough*Eragon*cough*

Let it rest you fool. Stop trying to subtly sneak in insults. ;)

Sneaky troll is sneaky. For the record, MGS3 is by far the best game in the series.

Movies aren't necessarily about immersion. Both movies and games are trying to tell stories (well not all) and both do so in different ways. Mostly games follow film conventions of story telling and let you control the action sequences yah. Bioshock is an example of a game that tells a story in way not at all like a film whereas MGS is an example of the former. If you can have good movies based on books - which tell stories differently to films - why can you not have good films based on game stories. The main problem in converting a game story is that a game usually has more story than would fit nicely into 90-120 minutes including action sequences (assuming its an action film)
But films take inspiration from everywhere; books, history, myths, etc. So a film maker could re tell a story but focus on a single relationship or key event. The Departed is a good film and a re-make of another film. Its the same but still different so logic follows that the same could be done for game-to-film projects, re-tell the story in a different way. Or use the universe, or game world, to tell an entirely different story from the game.

Edit: oh and regarding gamers who don't like films changing some details; frankly it'll be their loss, if they aren't open to exploring a game world from a new or different perspective, when a game is turned into a good film that differs from the source material. And its like Duke Nukem Forever; one will come out... eventually

Half Life. But not from the perspective of Gordon, he could make an appearance but I don't want him to be the main character... because he doesn't talk.

The Chaos Engine

I think if done well that would make an excellent film. It has such a great setting, Victorian Steampunk, and a dark, disturbed, foreboding atmosphere, I would love to see it expanded onto the big screen.

I'm imagine it would be a bit like a cross between Dark City & The League of Extranordinary Gentlemen.

Hopefully the characters would be played by British actors, rather than traditional Hollywood action stars.

Off the top of my head, I'd cast Sean Pertwee as the Brigand, Jason Flemyng as the Gentleman, Jason Statham as the Mercanary(or maybe Karel Roden), James Nesbitt as the Preacher, Brian Blessed & Tom Baker as NPC's...

I am not too fond of Game to movie conversions. They CAN work if they are done WELL and in the right style. Not all game movies have to be live action, which is what i find to be the fault for many potential game movies. Try doing it in anime? or CGI? live action is one choice, and does not always fit.

I would not mind Seeing a halo movie if it were based on the books. Now a live action? perhaps it could work, but I think a more CGI approach to it would fit and open the opportunity to do much more. top notch 3D would be excellent for halo IMO.

Metal gear Is a movie all in itself

Final Fantasy 6 I think could; with the right actors, director and such, make one hell of an episodic movie. I mean on a Lord of the Rings scale. There is certainly an abundance of character and content there to make a box office smash.

Ninja Gaiden movie anyone? It could be done with live action and be as bad ass as a Blade movie, just with more ninja added to it.

A Metroid movie would KICK ASS in live action or top grade CGI. They did plan on making a metroid movie but sadly was canceled...they should really give it another shot. They could cover Samus' origins and events up until and into the first game.

Just my 2 cents to the topic.
