Poll: What is Final Fantasy Versus?

As I'm sure everyone is aware Final Fantasy Versus VIII has been cancelled.
But what is Versus? Since I can't find any mention of it outside of it being cancelled? Is it a fighting game like Dissida?

From the gameplay footage it looks like a darker and edgier Kingdom Hearts clone. Nothing wrong with that so long as it was done well.

As far as I'm aware, the cancellation is still only a rumor.

Way back when they first announced Final Fantasy XIII, it was to be part of one big universe, in which would also be Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. I think Versus XIII was supposed to be more action-oriented, sort of like FF VII Crisis Core. It was supposed to have a completely different cast but keep the whole Fal'cie angle, I believe.

Agito XIII turned into Final Fantasy Type-0 which was released in Japan only for the PSP.

Um that was a rumor started by Kotaku using "unnamed sources" and someone else came out saying that isn't true and that they are going to say something at TGS. Also in perhaps the most convenient part of the whole rumor Kotaku said that Square Enix weren't going to confirm or denythe rumor.

So. Versus isn't cancelled, it's a bluff, or a double bluff and it really is cancelled and nobody believes it?

I really don't get Square Enix, they seem to have their fans even more than the Evangelion creator did.

The gameplay of versus looks good, so I am now wondering why everything that players would want gets cancelled. And versus does look like a darker and grittier Kingdom Hearts set in the future. Only set in the Final Fantasy Universe.

I have seen some of the cut-scenes from Versus XIII in a video on youtube before, not sure where they got it from, but it had a man with black hair from the trailer and the girl from XIII with the pink hair.

It's up to Square-Enix to disprove the rumours. I don't want it to be cancelled but I'm not going to have any false hopes that this will be out anytime soon.

That trailer was pretty cool. The combat looks really good. I also liked the characters clothing as well. It seemed a bit more realistic.

As for what it is: it's a game which is set in its own unique universe, but has thematic and mythological ties to XIII, hence the title Versus XIII. It's made by the same dudes who made Kingdom Hearts, and by the looks of it is a mash-up of Kingdom Hearts gameplay with proper FF gameplay, all set against a gangster story.

this is the one final fantasy game that might bring it back for me, 12 was alright, 13 and 13-2 were complete crap to me, and by the trailers i have/had seen for it, this description sums it up quite well, and i'm pretty damn excited for it.
