I'm sure we have all encountered them at some point during our flash-gaming binges but, unlike the Tower Defense game, I have never known what to call these games...You know the ones: you start out on top of a ramp or, on a launching mechanism then, after increasing your speed by one hopeful button press or, holding the right arrow, are sent flying away. On your path you smack the ground only to bounce up like a rubber ball [most times spilling copious amounts of blood in the process] and continue until you run out of momentum. I just started playing a 'new' one on newgrounds where you basically play an indestructible semi-truck jetting off of a ramp traveling anywhere between 50 and, 1,500 MPH where, once you reach sea level again, hit houses and buildings which explode at the merest touch.

I know this isn't a puzzle game and, I know this is one of many flavors of casual game but what exactly is it? If it hasn't got an official classification I vote Skipping Game because after the initial jump you have to skip just right to ensure you hit that 1,000,000 mile mark.

To keep this thread from dying why not talk about your first, last and, favorite game in this sub-sub-genre?

My first was the penguin one whose title I can't remember and my favorite one is Homerun in Berzerk Land. I found them both on newgrounds.com because once I find a website I like I stick with it for at least a decade unless I get banned from it

I believe they're called time wasters. Granted, I've played one or two myself in my days. But I always have this moment where I stop and say to myself, "hmm... oh... wow. I'm going to die some day. Maybe there's something even mildly more productive I could be doing with my time."

There isn't.

But that's what I always think.

Normally I hear them refered to as 'Flash Games' and never a specific genre. Maybe a Ipad App would have a name for it? hmmm

If you're referring to the genre in general, there's no definitive name for those kinds of games. I guess I would call them "slider games" or "ramp fliers" or something...

I've always called them catapult games, although I supposed you could say it's a long jump game cause the idea is distance.

I refer to them as launch games ( as in Hedgehog Launch or Pirate Launch) but normally they end up on miscellaneous section of the gaming websites.

Would you like to share the name of the game with the exploding truck?

I like Toss The Turtle. I find myself resorting to that game from time to time after I've exhausted all the new/latest games until I get bored out of my gourd. There are a few different examples of these games, like Pirate Launch and Hedgehog Launch. Basically they play the same, just with different characters and backgrounds. Hedgehog Launch 1 & 2 are both pretty good. The penguin game you mentioned I think was just called Penguin Toss.
