Why is it so opposed to bump your own thread if it dies?
I mean, if you post it at the wrong time of the day and due to not many people on the escapist and no one posts and it dies why is it so wrong to bump it?

Because if no one was posting in your thread in the first place, it probably should have stayed dead. If you post at the 'wrong time of the day', that's probably your fault. Take note of when people usually like to post and post then.

Becuase it pushes out better threads or newer threads to simply keep something going that people no longer care about? Perhaps? Mayby?

If everyone bumped their own threads then there would never be many new ones. I don't think it should be a bannable offence at first but it should come with warnings and if continued should lead to banning. Or is that what the Escapist already do?

It's not that bad if you add something new to the thread, but if you just say "Bump lol" whenever it gets off the first page..

Or if you triple post in an attempt to keep your thread on the front page...

Threads usually die when it is time for them to die, so bumping is just inconsiderate of other people's threads. If your thread dies, it is always because nobody wants to post on it anymore.

It's a nice way of allowing people to post who missed out the discussion the first time without having to rely on repeat threads.

I think that it should be allowed within reason, but repeated bumping should result in a warning, and if necessary a probation.

Why? Because if it isn't posted at the right time of day, then it could fail because of threads with more interesting titles, or it might simply be because the people who would be interested in it aren't there etc.
Repeated bumping though, keeps a thread that isn't interesting anymore alive and twitching, but rarely ever enough to revive it.

Exactly. Ive been put on probation for simply bumping a thread that didnt get an answer after 30-40 minutes of creation.

All it does is take up space that discussions that people actually find interesting could use. I can see the justification for bumping once, but any more than that (or if it's not off the first page of threads yet) significantly reduces the quality of a forum.

It's not recommended, but it's definitely not something that should be punished.

People should simply not do it.

You shouldn't be banned or suspended for it, well maybe suspended if you do it 5 times a day the second the thread goes to page 2, but other than that, the most you should get is a probation.

Unless its a thread you need genuine help in and no one reads it, then a bump or 2 couldn't hurt.

IF, this is a big if mind it got alot of replies but no resolve and is fairly recent, 1 bump sure. Beyond that you're beating a dead horse with a stick. Just because you liek the dead thing your beating doesn't mean the neighbors want to smell it.

I think someone should get a warning if they bump their thread like half an hour after it's posted, but besides that I don't see a problem with it. It's just someone thinking they have an interesting topic and wanting to know what everyone thinks of it.
