Ususaly I'll play maybe the first level or two on easy, just to get to grips with controls, mechanics etc. Then once I get a reasonable grip on things, I'll crank it up to regular so I get a nice blend of story and action.

Likleyhood is that if I don't do this, I'll walk into a room and the enemy will re-decorated the wall behind me with an interesting new concept called "Hint of Brain"...

...not to say this doesn't happen on normal/hard...but it would happen a lot more if I don't know the controls any better than I know my arse from my elbow...

I chose expert (these days that's not saying much) and I play for the story first. Multi-player is for convincing yourself it wasn't a waste of cash when you realise the story is crap...

I love nothing more then batteling through scenarios, fighting and killing if needed. If i find a tough challenge, i try, try and more try until i give up for a while and come back later with a furious aproach to the way i think of the target. I like nothing more then winning or at least coming up 2nd. If i do not come up first in the first two times, i keep going until i can probably name each move i have done throughout the game.

Altough I play games almost daily, I am not naturally good at them. I have to practice and re-do levels a lot... Ok I'll admit it - I kinda suck (the only games I am suprising really good at are the Tony Hawk games. I have no idea why). That being said, I'll start at the easiest level and then, if I like the game, I'll replay it and increase the difficulty.

I always play on hardest setting, and I'm interested in the story all the same
Multiplayer on the other hand, I hardly ever touch

I choose Regular to Hard. I like to enjoy the story elements as much as the gameplay elements.

Usually the normal difficulty. I don't want it to be too easy but I don't want to miss important story elements because I'm screaming at my TV.

Easy - Normal. I don't wanna repeat anything more than twice, thrice tops. I want the experience.

Normal most of the time, unless it's a series I'm confident with, then I'll go for hard (Half-Life series for example).

Very rarely I touch the easy setting, for example Ninja Gaiden II.

Expert-Expert 2

I don't really care about the plot and I'm more focused on enjoying myself and completing challenging games.

In games like Fallout 3 and BioShock the plot is enjoyable thus I don't skip that.

hmm cant pick any of those really because:
1: I Play mainly for the story in all games, its whats important (screw ZC!)
2: I only ever play on the hardest difficulty in games when playing single player, and don't die much, if at all
3: I kick arse in multiplayer
4: A game without a story is not a game to me

The poll makes it seem like the more interested in the story you are, the less of a gamer you are, which is certainly not the case
That's rather closed minded. What about driving games like Forza? Or many of the live arcade games we see about?

The poll makes it sound like everyone who doesn't play mainly for story is a murderous maniac, of course people are not going to vote for that. I like Crayon Physics Deluxe and I'm quite glad that it doesn't have to much of a story and goes straight to fun challenges.

Dude it depends entirely on the game man.

I mean shit, I don't play like, F-zero for the story, but sure as hell I do play Lufia 2 for the story.

It ain't possible to generalize like that, 'cause I'm like a gamer that enjoys every sort of game, 'cept those shitty ones.. yeah.

I play games to take my anger out on (ie. lots of gore), if I can level up a character RPG style, or something I can play with my girlfriend or my siblings.

I see what you mean and i didn't mean to make it sound like that, in the end i consider a true gamer as someone who actually appreciates the art form that games are
Well said. We're on the same page there.

the high difficulty is more of a personal challenge really, however someone who sits down to play a game and skips cutscenes, or talks through them, I have to reach over and smack them across the face with my controller, theres a time and place for talking, and that is multi player, you don't walk into the cinema and jabber on with your mates whilst the film is running, so a higher form of art than that should not have to suffer the same fate

once again zero coordination can get screwed (if you don't know what that is, look for the n00b effect on youtube)
Ahha! I missed that reference in your first post. Interesting video. To each their own I suppose. The trick is for designers to find a good balance. I thought Uncharted 2 was nicely balanced between story and gameplay. I'm not aware yet of any games which tip too far into having too much story (though I say this having not yet played Metal Gear Solid 4. HA!!!)

Back on topic though. I'm impressed that you are able to enjoy the higher difficulties. I wish I was able to however I am not yet at that level and too many deaths for me can lead to frustration which takes me out of the experience. Keep at it.

When i bought MW2, i put it on regular and went on to complete the game in one day. Now im playing the multiplayer.

Usually i come back to play the full campain again on a higher difficulty.
