In essence I want to know what people like more in a game. Stuff like story elements, Gameplay, ETC. What is it that makes a game great?

A good balance of all elements but in reality you never really need the multiplayer unless its a FPS, if its a FPS then gameplay and multiplayer is all you really have to worry about

To me though the Story, and Characters, plus the art style are the most important things. Even if its a turn-based rpg, as long as its interesting and appealing I will probably play it all the way

I like a good balance between Story, Gameplay and Search Bar.
When the game looks good its just the icing on the cake.

Am I really the only person who voted 'fun'?

Does that just mean that people aren't assuming 'fun' means 'enjoyable', like me?

I'd prefer a good story over anything. Though, a good balance of all never hurts.

Also, I'd couple gameplay with multiplayer, as they define a game. (Assume singleplayer be subset of multiplayer.)
Both = fun.

A good game works. Simple as that.

Whether you like a game or not, you cannot dispute it when a game's mechanics are just executed according to plan. I can see, say, FIFA works pretty damn good, but you won't catch me playing it.

You can compare a game with a machine. When every cog and chain lock into each other and spin according to plan, you get one big well-oiled machine. The same counts for games; when music and sound, art design and graphics, gameplay and story all latch into each other and operate according to plan it just functions well.

Whether I like a game or not is another matter entirely. I've liked games that didn't really work that well and disliked games that worked really well.

It all depends on certain things. If the story is tolerable but the gameplay is awesome then I'll consider it a good game. If the story is great but the gameplay is tolerable then I can still consider it a good game. If one thing is lacking then the other portions better pick up it's slack to make up for it.

Something that isn't on the list:

Immersion.

If you can play a game for six hours without realizing it, you know it's a good game. Or it has mind control powers (I'm looking at you Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing...)

Also, if multiplayer is on the list, why isn't single play? Most people think that Single Player is actually more important than Multiplayer.

I like a nice mix of gameplay, story and having fun. Not saying that every story has to be all happy and fun and shit, just has to be enjoyable to experience.

I believe that Uncharted 2 combines all of these brilliantly. The gameplay had great shooting and nice melee combat, the platforming was good, especially how the acrobats could be used during combat. The story was great too, it might not be the most original thing ever but it certainly kept me entertained and interested the whole way through, the events of the story led to some absolutely epic moments of gameplay. The fact that the game had some of the best graphics I've ever seen was also awesome.

Having one of those aspects nailed makes the game "good". But combining all elements into a fitting mold makes it great.

If it is not fun (as in I enjoy the experience) nothing else matters.

While I think everything mentioned in the poll needs to be balanced in order to have a good game, I would've voted for "Length" if it were on the poll. Most games are either too short or just drone on for too long.

To me it's a balance of everything, and if a game is lacking one element it can make up for it in another element.
For example Gear Of War did nothing wrong with gameplay but it simply didn't capture any sense of fun.
And to me Mass Effect is proof that with a good story, even the shittiest game is enjoyable.

Well certain things I did not think to add, immersion, single-player, and others I thought for most part they were kinda part of the whole idea. Games like Halo 3 and Modern Warfare for me were ok in the game-play, but were all about the multi-player. Single player should be assumed with the other elements.
