Have you play the game more than five hours?

Yes> Then you aren't a noob

No> Chances indicate that you are, but not necessarily

Keyword here is "new". Further elaboration leads us to the conclusion that such terminology is "subjective".

"Noob" is now used in such a way to ridicule other gamers if they don't stand up to some arbitrary expectation. In many senses, it's similar to the use of the word "nerd".

A noob is a person who plays for an extended period of time yet still sucks. Smash Bros. however, is largely based on luck so I won't beat yourself up over it.
Pretty much this. A "newb" is a person new to the game and unfamiliar with the mechanics because of it, while a "noob" is a person that is so bullheaded that they never learned the basics of advanced play.

I say "basics" because you don't need to have tourny-level skills to not be a noob. Of course, it's a relative term, but you get my point.

It's a fine line when it comes to "noob tactics", using FPSes as an example. I'll leave quickscoping and knifing alone; they are both pretty idiotic from a "realism" standpoint, but it does take some measure of skill to pull them off. Instead, look at the grenade launcher or "noob tube". On one side you have the people who point out how easy it is to get skilless kills with them. On the other hand, they ARE part of the game, and who's the noob for not using what you have to the fullest extent?

This explains EVERYTHING. Smash Bros. has NEVER required skill of any kind.

If you say so, Saibot.

Yeah. Super Smash Brothers as a series are a poor excuse for a fightin... Oh wait. They're a party game. Carry on then.

there is a big difference between newb and noob. a newb has no idea what the OP weapons are, and no idea of tactics. thats excusable and we all have been there. a noob spams OP weapon only (usualy tube/frag based) uses the cheapest tactics available, and is usualy the one calling everyone a noob when they kill them, and a hack if they were the one getting killed. think COD fanboys = mostly noob.

Lets take a look at BFBC2. Assault player has ammo boxes and grenade launcher for weapons. asault player gets on hill by a bottleneck thats real hard to get onto, drops an ammobox and proceeds to use nothing but the grenade launcher spamming it into the bottleneck everytime enemies go there, and ignores the rest of the team that needs ammo. thats a noob.

running around in a town, tubing infantry boots, has none left for yon sniper inside a building or a small crowd at the MCOM.

other noobtube.. the rocket launcher. map with vehicles in it and some for both sides. engineer runs around puting the rocket onto infantries boots but has none for the vehicles. thats a noob.

anyone that frags always when they can easily point and shoot, saving frags for when it is needed is a noob. yes the weapons are there but the non noob will save them for when they are absolutly needed and take pride in using primary weapon with primary fire for kills.

What makes a newb? Ultimately, inexperience.
What makes a noob? Unwillingness/inability to improve.

Inexperience coupled with exceptional stupidity.

Let me put it this way: have you ever had an experience where a title is completely new to you, but you grasp the mechanics, even the intricate and subtle ones, in about 3 minutes or less? Anyone who can call themself a seasoned gamer should be able to say yes, because we've seen so many different titles that we can apply certain patterns and schemas to different titles under certain genres.

Now take your classic noob. They don't have a fucking clue what's going on, and whereas a hint would nudge even a thoroughly confused gamer in the right direction, they still don't have a god-forsaken sliver of understanding as to what they're doing.

Do they read the guide? Of course not, they're a fucking n00b.

Basically how you describe that clown that you played against. Perfectly capable to play the game competitively but decide to resort to cheap tactics.

Over 50 replies and the majority vote states that I'm not a noob. A few of you even say I'm a pro with bad luck!

Thanks guys, that makes me feel loads better.
