Grunge/post-grunge/alternative-grunge-metal-thingie.

Specifically Evanescence, Crossfade and Shelter Red. The lyrics of some of the song suit me pretty well.

(not farther away though, shut up 3:)

Mostly stuff that isn't main-stream. That's about how far I can narrow it down. I listen to all sorts of genres, it mainly depends on what I'm in the mood for. I have alternative rock, punk, industrial, electronic, classic rock, different forms of metal, some orchestralish stuff, some country rock, soundtracks, some stuff that can be all over the place (Weird Al and TMBG come to mind), and a few other random stuff. I usually like the harder music and am not a fan of "poplar" music (pop, hip-hop, rap) cus it just isn't to my taste. I can't really put myself in one genre though. My taste is too varied.

Some classic rock, some 90's pop, some techno, some rap. I like to have a wide variety.

I'll dabble in either rock or shoegaze, but I'm a total score nut. Film and video game scores are what I listen to, and they fill my iPod to the brim.

This right here.

Personally, I think my two favorite bands are Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.

Death and some sorts of black and folk metal.

Only the real shit, please. Dont mean to be a stuck up elitist 6 year old but I cant stand some of this shit that gets called death metal these days. Bands like Kalmah, Odious Mortem, (old) Cryptopsy, etc. As for black metal, keep this hail satan bullshit away from me. Bands like Burzum are awesome, and Dimmus very very first album was flawless.

Of course, metal is only what I listen to 70% of the time. I listen to a lot of different music that really couldnt vary further.
This for me ^^^^^
Also I do love Immortal, Bathory, (old) Mayhem, Venom, Vital Remains.

But also have been know to listen (extensively) to New Age/Celtic like Loreena McKennitt and The Doors, Pink Floyd, Electric Wizard, Cathedral etc.

For the last while, I've been thinking about what the average hardcore gamer listens to/associates themselves with, (I'm a Hard Rock/Screamo kinda guy) What about you?
System of a Down :p

OT: Techno/rock/ some hip hop and rap but yeah out of all those, mainly techno. From psychedelic to rave and everything in between
...except maybe minimalistic...

I myself am quite the fan of Daft Punk (but the term 'techno' makes me cringe) as well as the kind of songs that make you feel like a sheer badass, like Jonny Cash's 'God's gonna cut you down', especially when going on a crit-rocket streak in TF2.

When asked I just say metal. Thrash, power, doom, alternative, symphonic, folk, little bit of black and death, and of course classic stuff like Sabbath or Iron Maiden. Not a fan of imitation metal stuff like screamo or metalcore.

There's tons of other stuff I like from rock, electronic, blues, pop, etc. If the song actually has some real talent and emotion put into it I can enjoy it. Which is why I just say metal when asked what I listen to. For the most part it is the only genre I can find any legitimate passion in these days.

Someone talking or pretending to sing while a machine corrects their voice every 3 seconds over either a generic crappy beat made by someone else, or a beat "sampled" from a previously popular song =/= music imo.
