My sister just got me the Mass Effect Pack off of Steam today, partly because my birthday is coming up soon and partly because YOU CAN CURRENTLY GET THEM BOTH FOR TEN DOLLARS ON STEAM, BUT ONLY TODAY. Squee! Anyways, I have 5 hours to kill and during that time, I need to come up with a good name for my Commander Shepard. Only problem is, I have an extreme case of indecisiveness and I cannot for the life of me decide on a good name for ol' Shep. So I thought: Why not ask the good ol' people on the Escapist?

A couple of rules here:

1. I'm going with a Male Paragon Shepard. That means mean-sounding names like Seth are out.

2. It has to sound heroic. Who would you take more seriously, Ragnar Shepard or Steve Shepard?

3. No "joke" names, like Titty Shepard. Who names their kid Titty anyways?

4. Be creative; don't just post a name just because you named him that or you saw an LP'er use it.

5. Try not to post any spoilers or advice here. The internet has already spoiled half the plot for me; I kinda wanna keep the other half pure.

6. There is no rule number six.

7. Finally, yes, I do plan on getting ME3 once it comes out.

Okay Escapists, get to it! Once the game has finished downloading, I'll let you all know what I've decided on!

EDIT: Rule number 8: As funny as it is, I'm not calling him Commander Commander Shepard

You find Seth mean sounding? When I hear the name Seth I think of trying to get the firing pin for a musket back from an arctic fox (a friend of mine played a DnD character named Seth that this actually happened to).

I just stuck with the default John. Also I would not take anyone named Ragnar seriously.

Yeah, that was one of my first and worst ideas. Lemme just scratch that off the list...

Personally, I find Seth mean-sounding... because I still have horrible, horrible memories of the Seth from Street Fighter 4.

Ahem. On topic. Er... how about the name of a famous conqueror? Alexandros/Alexander comes to mind immediately, as I am a ancient Greek history buff, though there are obviously many others.

Sheep Shepard. Sure, you could say it's a joke name, but let's be honest... it's worth it. Tend your flock, Shepard! Plus, you'll note I spelled Shepard correctly.

Ah, right. I seriously thought it was spelt with an H. Thanks!

Go with Alex.

Alex Shepard was the main guy from Silent Hill Homecoming. He was a badass solider type. On a side note he was also voiced by the guy who voiced Varric in DA2 making him all the more awesome.

Adrian, every time. I like to think the G-Man let Cpl. Shepard out of stasis way in the future.

When I saw the thread title, I was seriously thinking "Titty", ala the great Yatzee. However, you struck me down with your "rules". :(

The only real heroic names I can think of are common place, like John, Thomas, Marcus, and Alex.

Umm... anything?

Joshua
Adrian
Jacob
Dane
Flubber
Goat
George
Alex
Alan

...

There's a lot of male names out there.

I gave my shepard the first name of Lords. Its just a fun little joke that also sounds badass as hell and sets you up for like infinite one-liners.

His first name should be 'Commander'.

Do it.

How about Adrian or Lance Shepherd, it sounds kinda heroic. Or you could go for Hero Shepherd, since you're planning on going paragon.
