How about we trust that the rating board did their job. They judged the game's contents, NOT what an adult mght turn it into. They can't be blamed for a stupid ad Freuding the game up.
Actually, I don't find it to be irrelevant when you attach the said example to the topic in question. If the game is meant for kids, why market it in a fashion that makes it adult orientated?Woodsey said:Irrelevant.Sparrow said:That begs the question why anyone would market it that way in the first place if not to pull in the porn-loving crowd.Woodsey said:If Thomas the Tank Engine was marketed as some sort of high class porno (bear with me here), but the actual show obviously didn't contain any of that, would you then expect the show itself to be rated for adults only?

The point is its been marketed in a way that doesn't actually show what the thing being marketed is like. Using a sexualised example just helps make it more relevant to what we're discussing, and because you don't change age ratings when a tragedy is marketed as a comedy, or whatever.Sparrow said:Actually, I don't find it to be irrelevant when you attach the said example to the topic in question. I would expect it to be blammed to the deep circles of hell for being so utterly ridiculous. The point your using is twisted and inane (which is a fancy word) - if you don't play the game that way, you don't market it that way. Why would you pull your market in only to decieve them?Woodsey said:Would you then expect the show itself to be rated for adults only?
Gee, I wonder why you'd market something to one group, but also make it tame enough to be played by another, younger group, who are probably more likely to own Wiis (SALES!).Sparrow said:I would expect it to be blammed to the deep circles of hell for being so utterly ridiculous. His point was that the content itself is deserving of a 12+. What people might do with that is irrelevant to the content itself. The ad cannot affect the rating. Have you played it? The rating board has, so how about we trust that they can do what they are paid to do.Sparrow said:Kids "discovering" (might not be the best word) their sexual side (again, this all sounds a little weird) is all good to me (really, out of context this is horrible) as long as it's a natural progression. Teenagers are going to be interested in sex, and that's fine. It's natural, as I said before. The focus on it in a video game, however, still strikes me as bit off. I just think kids should find all that stuff on their own, not through stroking a Wiimote with their face.gmaverick019 said:yeah true, that's not what my point was getting at, yes the game has some very "lite" mature sexual functions, but if your squabbling over your kids getting it, then you really need to take a reality check because withOUT the game i see kids (and like i said, have done myself) much more and worse than that around that age, so the game's rating is not much of a matter to me, although i don't think it should really be in the hands of 6-7 year olds, as it would make near zero sense to them at the time and we don't need to pervert our youth that badly =]
Well done, you've won the award of most hostile user of the month. Feel proud.Woodsey said:And you've played the game, like that mass of people, have you?Sparrow said:I myself would probably sway toward a 15+ rating. I don't usually find myself agreeing with the mass opinion when ratings of games come into question, but in this case I think 12+ is a bit too low.
If it's rated as a 12, then that's because there's nothing in there that's not appropriate for a 12-year-old. How its marketed is irrelevant, because that's not what they're rating.
If you look at the gameplay clips in the ad, it seems pretty clear that the only sexual undertones are coming from the advert itself. Two people try to eat an apple in one, and the other one they're flying.
Big fucking whoop. If they want to spank each other whilst they're tapping the remote then more power to them.
They rate it on who the content is appropriate for - the game isn't rated based on what age group might like it.James Charles said:Though the game is "tame" by the standards of visuals and gameplay mechanics (you dont have to put the controler in her ass and spank her im sure laying it down on a table and hitting it will work?) its intended reception, audience and overall feel of the game leans it towards a adult and or swingers party, who the hell at PEGI thought 12 year olds like to swing?.
You'd think a bunch of gamers would know how age ratings work.
Relating to your point however, just as I did in the part of the post you snipped out, I agree that I don't have much to base this on. It's just a trailer for a cheesy piece of shovelware. What I'm getting at however is that I wouldn't want my kids playing the game in that fashion (not that I have any), which they would be allowed to do by purchasing the game legally. Whether the rating will change or not is not my point, it's more my opinion on whether or not the content we've been shown deserves a higher rating.
Yes, again, well done for being hostile. Honestly, what's the point of acting the way you do?Woodsey said:Gee, I wonder why you'd market something to one group, but also make it tame enough to be played by another, younger group, who are probably more likely to own Wiis (SALES!).
What you're suggesting is that a game's age rating is increased, based solely on its marketing campaign. Watch the gameplay in the trailer, and ignore all the other crap. They're eating an apple, and then they hold hands flying round a castle.
15+? FOR THAT?
The age rating is saying that its suitable for people 12 and over, they don't give a crap about who its marketed to.
The point I was using is perfectly relevant, but simply exaggerated to help you see the point I was making - which you obviously can't, since you're incapable of answering a simple question.

Also - "What you're suggesting is that a game's age rating is increased, based solely on its marketing campaign" - I never said that, you're talking the words out of my mouth. What I was getting at is that I doubt this game is any way geared toward gameplay for kids. Your argument is that the advert is not an actual representation of what the game will be like, which is hypocritical when you factor in your previous point that I can't say what the game will be like never having played it. Your searching for an argument that doesn't exist, as I'm basing my opinion on what the game from the ADVERT would be rated as - which is pretty sexually fueled.
well you know..pierce brosnan is the narrator now, so there could be underlying persuasions in the dialogue ;]Woodsey said:If Thomas the Tank Engine was marketed as some sort of high class porno (bear with me here), but the actual show obviously didn't contain any of that, would you then expect the show itself to be rated for adults only?
Did not know that xD Just looked at him recording some stuff on Youtube, and now it all sounds sexual.gmaverick019 said:well you know..pierce brosnan is the narrator now, so there could be underlying persuasions in the dialogue ;]Woodsey said:If Thomas the Tank Engine was marketed as some sort of high class porno (bear with me here), but the actual show obviously didn't contain any of that, would you then expect the show itself to be rated for adults only?
To answer you last question, it's because I believe that the actual game will be as such. The emphasis on gameplay from the trailer is based on being sexual, therefore it is not ridiculous to assume that this is the way you will actually be instructed to play the damn game. It's called "We Dare".Woodsey said:And that last part - are you kidding me? You created a thread to question what people would rate the game if it was really based around spanking each other, as opposed to what the game is actually like? Well then what is the point in that?
I could play Wii Golf with a girl, and do my best to rub myself up against her arse. Just because I'm playing that way doesn't mean there's anything like that in the content of the game, and that is EXACTLY what is going on with this game and its advert.
