What I'm very tired of is the entire world (not just the Escapist readers in general) seeing Americans as lily-white, pick-up driving rednecks. Those people are in the far minority; yet somehow, whenever ANYTHING about America pops up, these are the assholes that are always trotted out for public display. It's getting old, guys, get mature and grow up.

One third of the American population is now comprised of Hispanics. Then you have your African Americans, Asians, etc, etc. I'm in the far minority myself: I'm a Native American. I could go on all morning about what damage has been done in the five hundred years 'white people' have been here; but griping isn't going to change anything, so why bother? Its all in the past, and people need to move forward.

Theres a message here, folks. Move forward, and don't buy into this anti-American hate mongering.

Because I am american, I'm not feeling very empty at all at the moment. I actually really like traveling and getting to know people in other countries, and I tend to like them a lot more then my fellow american friends, not gonna lie.

As I said, I don't believe ALL Americans are like this. I have much respect for The U-S-Of-A.
The things that makes me made is.. It happened over 60 years ago! We have so much information about this war that I can't forgive people not knowing when they talk out their own asshole!

But what I don't understand is that, with all those people saying "Japan bombed America, Japan bombed America, I haven't forgotten!" what they fail to realize is that most of the citizens alive in Japan today, which most of the whole country is comprised of, had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor. Just like me and my brothers and sisters and cousins didn't have anything to do with (sorry to bring in other issues but they're purely examples) historic racism, or the bombing of Hiroshima, or anything that happened in the past. Just as we had nothing to do with those, the citizens in Japan had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor.

I see what you mean there, but people should know what the hell there talking about before they write something like this. This is one of the most offensive things I have ever seen in my life.

I really can't figure out of some of these people are just xenophobic of anything un-American (which also includes Americans that don't LOOK American) and have a knee jerk WWII reaction to bash any country that has ever remotely opposed the United States or if they just had the shittiest history education ever and never realized Japan's involvement with the US after Pearl Harbor. Here's something. Trace whoever is making these offensive posts, images and such. Let everyone in the surrounding area find out their little mutterings of stupidity via posters blatenty exposing their sick minded attitudes.
Then their residence come under assault from the general public, with the occasional dawn raid of the local police who "mistake" their house for a wanted criminals place of residence and generally let it get egged back to the stoneage, which judging by their club grunting mindset wont be too long.

I saw this pop up on a right wing forum, most of them tried to justify the nuclear bombs with "well THEY wouldn't surrender so they DESERVED it"

As if not surrendering in a war with America is such an affront that you deserve to be nuked.

Huh? That makes so little sense; I'm shocked. Any country back in the 1940s would have gladly nuked their enemies if it meant less causalities for their side.
Here are the pros and cons of a nuke (and a land invasion too).

Launch amphibious assault on Japan. Huge causalities on both sides but Americans lose at least a million soldiers (no, thats a real number). End result: Hundreds of thousands of men die, billions of dollars spent and Americans ***** forever about how stupid that was.

Nuke? A couple of aircraft-carriers get within flying distance of Japan, send off a few planes and proceed to "nuke the bastards." End result: Japs loose tens of thousands of lives (some innocent) and surrenders. America throws a party because they didn't loose every young man it sent to the war.

Now which one sounds better? For the Americans? For the Japanese? Explain your answer.
