O.K., if you care, here's the story:
Yesturday I was at a yard sale and I found an old strategy guide for halo 2, I got it and it got me reinterested in the game. After playing for however long, I realized how many things were not brought into halo 3. Their was not an explination or anything, it was as if it never existed, and I started thinking about it. Here is an example, this is the spectre:

That's just one, their are several others like the honor gaurds, shaddow transport, and the brute turret ( and their plasma rifle, but that came back in odst.) So I thought I'd ask the great people at the escapist what they thought about games leaving stuff behind.
OK, I want to now what you think about games "forgetting" about their previous objects, or any thing/one in the game without an explination or if you have any other examples.
Edit: explination would be like the factory being bombed, or the supply being rare to power what ever it is, anything around there if you were wondering.

It did confuse me that they took out the spectre as that was my favorite covanant vehicle.

You know what is worse? When in Prequels, there are weapons that are MORE futuristic. If there is no given explanation, obviously.

Leaving something behind angers me slightly, but I can easily overlook it.

Did anyone complain when the MAKO was gone from Mass Effect? Thought so. (To be fair, I kind of liked MAKO).
Usually this is done to improve gameplay and balance and in games like Halo, those go before continuity.

I would actually like to encourage games to leave behind many of the weapons and equipment used in predessecors to set out for something new.

While this could become very inconsistent with the universe that the games both are in, it shouldn't be so hard to simply say "Oh you're on a different planet/in a different country" or "Oh this is another branch of enemy soldiers that use different equipment better suited for this environment" and use that as an excuse to include more new stuff while leaving old stuff out.

If anyone has any game series that follow this route, please tell me about them and inform me on how that particular thing was executed.

As for the question, I was always sad that they excluded the minigun with a bazooka attachment in Killzone 2.

It didn't bother me as much as the removal of split-screen co-op however.

No, I'm never getting over that.

Brings me back to The Force Unleashed where the stormtroopers can use telekenesis.

I wonder if they ever talked about that afterward during the period of the original saga.

"Hey Paul, whatever happened to our telekenesis and our shock-sword-thingies that could deflect lightsabers?"

"Recession"

"Oooooh."

Well, it doesn't bother me that much. Ofcource it's better if they give an explenation for it, but I didn't totally freak out even though a lot of stuff was missing from Halo 3.

What bothers me more is stuff appearing out of nowhere to a sequel. I found it more confusing that stuff appeared to Halo 3, like every other brute having a hammer. I mean there was only one brute with a hammer in Halo 2 and when chief returns to Earth in Halo 3, suddenly all the high rank brutes have recieved a donation.

That's the official line, but really old Darth just got pissy at regular grunts cramping his style.
