Augh, I'm so mad/frustrated right now! D:

I just got told off by Ms-Pompous. You know who I'm talking about. That lady who doesn't even know you but feels like she has to throw her 2-cents off her moral-high-horse pedestal. I would say that the worst thing is that she doesn't even know what she's talking about (and yet talking so arrogantly), but no... The worst part is that I'm by nature a wuss... (damn you genetics! D:)

So the best I can do is throw nonsensical-muttered comebacks while staring at the floor, only to rant about it later in the car and ITT D=<

I ask you Escapist. What would/do you do about Ms-Pompous. Seriously, I'm talking real life. Not in an RPG!

Where is the stalk her for three days then shoot her from afar. Then rush up and canablize her corpse option? You can't have a fuckin' poll without that.

She basically gave me a false lecture about how my dog was aggressive (even though my dog plays with little girls and is probably the polar opposite). But my dog was barking, and she told me in a sing song voice that I should 'take better care of my dog, or else she'll think she's the boss'. The tone was rather arrogant, it wasn't kind. When I tried to correct her, she kept going at me Bill O'Reilly-style. Because of that, I started to stutter and get intimidated.

To make it worse, I knew she was wrong because she supports the alpha-dog theories which were proven false by current-day ethologists....But all of this...I didn't have the ability to 'tell her'. It's because when people pressure me, I get really 'flustered', and lose all thinking ability. It's a curse I've had since I was born

Sorry. I was about to include this option, but I ran out of space.

I have had to deal with that before at work and when it is work you cant yell at them but in this case i would have told her that she is wrong and that just because a dog is barking dose not mean that the dog is being mistreated or that the dog is ill temperd and just walked awau

Tear her apart with logic. Rationally, of course. It's the best way.

If someone is being the 'Ms Pompous' type of character you've described, then although I normally try to avoid confrontation, if I've been wronged then I make damn sure that whoever wronged me get's what they deserve. Example. I was once bullied. When I found out the guy who bullied me the most was dealing drugs, I got him expelled. Now that was a good bit of revenge x).

Now you're probably thinking, what does that have to do with 'Ms Pompous' people? Well, not much. But it serves to show that I refuse to back down to people. Thus when a 'Ms Pompous' person turns up and starts acting in such a manner, I'll let them know there and then that they should basically shut up and stop making an ass of themselves. And that is how you deal with it :D

Then the problem is with you. Learn how to speak properly under pressure. Then you will be able to tell Ms. Pompous to shove off.

If your logic is solid and undeniable then their smug arrogance can't even touch you (they'll quickly learn that they're wrong).

There is nothing more humiliating (to them, it's very satisfying for you) than being intellectually cut down on the spot with no valid come back, it takes a bit of nerve and will power but the results (namely, no-one dares to question you in fear of being harshly rebuked) is more than worth it.

EDT: I have just realised that this is my 1337th post (or l33t/1337 for those of you fluent in l33t speech), not really important or interesting but I found it funny for a second.

The best way to deal with people like that, and my mom is one so I learned, is to let your eyes glaze over and go, "OK," in a really "I'm not listening" tone of voice. It drives them batshit (so they're the ones fuming afterwards, not you), and they eventually leave you alone because they can't get you to react. Being extremely passive to the point of apathetic works wonders with this type.

Next time you see Ms-Pompous and she makes you mad just shrug, tell her she's a b*tch and walk away.

There will always be people like her in the world. Its best just to walk away from them and not even bother.

I have one of those in my class. The sad thing is, she is pretty smart and right most of the time but when she is wrong everyone tears her to bits-and she is still unaware that she is unliked. One time she tried to tell us that we are all African Americans because we crossed the land Bridge from Russia to North America. Well, by that logic we are all Siberian, now shut up.

I have to say I am really not a fan. The best you can do is not be intimidated by those people, take sollace in the fact that they are wrong and you know it, and then rationally pound the piss out of their statements....with words!

P.S. They also respond well to passive agressiveness

There is no wuss gene. It is strictly environmental (see the relevant twinning studies on non-temperament behavior for further details and relevant data).

Also, Alpha-male isn't strictly proven wrong. It is a special case to a more general theory. And she is right. All things held equal, it WILL think it is the leader and you are the follower. More than that, aggression is separate from violence. It is possible to be aggressive but non-violent, as your dog is.

The real problem is, she was right on every single detail, and yet you want to tell her off for being arrogant enough to think she could help you.
LOL, is this like a 'test' to see if I would fall under the same kind of pressure in an internet-forum as I do in a dog-park? Because I don't.

First off, if you want to get all technical about it, no, there is no wuss gene. -But- there are wuss 'genes', an aggregate collection of varied expressed proteins that help determine a general-state of personality (temperament, endorphin-response, etc.). "strictly environmental?". Not even close.

And yes, alpha-male theory is essentially debunked (no, really). It revolves around wolf-studies done in the 50's or so. Most people just haven't caught on yet due to the brain-washing effects of animals in Disney cartoons and similar media-influences. Further yet, aggression is linked to violence, especially in the case of a dog (though I suppose since you fell for pack-theory, you wouldn't know the general dog =/= human studies either). In addition, she basically told me she meant my dog would 'eventually turn violent'.

*Shrug* Was there -anything- you said that wasn't completely and utterly fallous? You're just like that woman. In fact, -you- are actually a prototypical Ms. Pompous.

Dude, I would -totally- do this if I had the emotional-resilience
