Huh, I assumed we would have a lot more genre obsessed people on the forums. Interesting.

I'm an Explorer and watching films has been one of my main hobbies for years. I enjoy a wide range of different types of movies and I also like to read film related lit. There are a few sub-genres that don't excite me though, such as torture horror/gross horror (A Serbian Film/Human Centipede), spoof comedies and modern college comedies (Scary Movie & American Pie) and schmaltzy Oscar baits (Benjamin Button etc.). Otherwise pretty much everything goes. I'm currently hoping to get my hands on some Douglas Sirk films, especially The Tarnished Angels since I've seen some gorgeous stills of the blu-ray release.

Last year I watched roughly 170 movies but this year has been a bit slower and I've managed to watch only 100 films thus far (my Fallout 3 and NV playthroughs ate up a lot of time), so I'm not that hardcore when it comes to the amount of films watched per year.

I'm a Explorer, I used to study cinema in college and I've worked in some short-movies as a cinematographer. I don't watch movies as much as I used to, but still is a big part of my life. These days I'm more into classics and "foreign", my favourite genre is drama.

I'm a combination of Geek Classic Enthusiast and Movie Fan, I just really like the "classics" of the 70's-80's period, as well as movies that try to replicate or rip on that style of movie
I also really like most of the Marvel movies, and really like those movies that some people don't "get," like Pacific Rim, film of the year 2013

Movie Fan with good touch of Explorer. Sure, I love the good classics. However, I'm not scared of watching old classics or artsy movies. Although, I am the worst person to bring to a cinema. I geek out and crack jokes when most people want to watch a movie.

I would say I'm somewhere around 3, 4 and 5. They're all very vague titles and I could come under possibly all of them, but my favourite films are probably Blade Runner, Akira and Clerks. Although Drive and Trainspotting are somewhere up there. I watch some indie films if I've been exposed to it and I like it, like The Dirties, which I think was a great film.

I'm closest to average, I don't watch movies much as of late, mainly because most of what comes out these days seems to be shit, but I do enjoy a good 'classic' movie every now and again.

I didn't know how to vote in the poll as I am a mix of Geek classic enthusiast, Movie fan, and Explorer. I tend to go see geek movies such as Pacific Rim in theaters but I will go out of my way to buy classics on bluray or dvd. I also tend to go out of my way to find whatever looks interesting on Netflix so yeah, though I also go through fits of Genre Obsession.

I love the medium, pure and simple. Not to sound like a philistine, but I actually prefer it to books. I'll pretty much watch anything you throw at me, regardless of language or genre.

Average. I barely watch films unless with friends/family and almost always at a movie theater. I just don't get watching films at home.

You forgot 1 category.
The type of movie watcher who loves terrible schlock like Ed Wood's movies, Battlefield Earth, The Room, Birdemic, Asylum movies, MST3K etc.
Oh right. I actually have friends who watch nothing but "terrible schlock" so I should have remembered to include it. Hmm, I think "genre obsessed" is the most fitting category out of the current options. As somebody already mentioned, if 'terrible shlock' isn't a genre yet, it really should be.

To me it sounds like you are a Movie Fan or an Explorer, since both of those can also love geek classics or go through phases where they obsess over a particular genre (so you can be a Movie Fan who loves geek classics among other things, for example). The main difference between Movie Fan and Explorer is that the latter is more willing to try out all kinds of different films (including stuff like arty European films/ less well known silent films/ experimental films/ cult classics etc.).

I watch about 400 films a year of all sorts (50 or so at the cinema). I guess I'd be "Explorer." While American blockbusters are the most readily available films and therefore I see more of them than anything else, my favorite films wind up more often than not being foreign or independent (although I'll adore a good blockbuster any day).

None of the above.

I watch films that interest me, if I was gun-to-the-head forced to pick one I would say "movie fan" but not by your definition. I own 500 DVDs but watch what interest me, like indie films/classics/oscar films hold 0 interest for me, they are usually just pretentious crap.

I watch the blockbusters mainly 'cos I think they have a good variation and quality to them. I do own a good number of horrors but I've fell out with them 'cos they are all kind of the same and I'm just never scared or affected by them. I like comedy films but a lot don't suit me as comedy, such as scary movie, not another teen movie, date movie, anchor man ... you know, silly comedy. I like bad boys, you have the serious shoot outs and then the "I want some fruit bubbleicious ... and some skittles". Of course I like a lot of pixar films, I even like cars 2! (Yeah, I said it!)

Calculated. I see the trailers and make tactical strikes at the genres I like. I'm not afraid to explore other films (indies, comedies, etc) but I would like someone to go see them with rather than go off on my own. Money, time and motivation to go all play into it.

I guess genre obsessed out of the list you have.

If we're talking about watching movies in theaters, then I'm a 1, plain and simple. So much of a 1 that the last film I saw in theaters was 300.

But to some extent, I'm both a 1 and 3. I say that because in the uncommon times I do watch a film on Netflix, it's gonna be a foreign action or horror film (more than likely the horror flick would be Korean and the action would be Japanese).

I put myself in the "Not Interested" category. The number of movies I watch seems to decrease over time. I hardly, if ever, watch movies these days. I might sit and watch one or two movies with my mother. I think I actually go to the theater once or twice a year.

I'm a mixture of "Not Interested" and "Genre Obsessed"

I rarely watch films. I don't like going to cinemas for a variety of reasons (Including: People are noisy and can ruin films, it's expensive, food is overpriced, you have to be there at a specific - usually awkward - time, I dislike going with friends - I meet up with friends to chat, not sit in silence for 1-2 hours - popular films means long queues and sub-par seats etc.)

So I'm just left with what I can buy on DvD (I don't really look, as I don't have much cash and there are other things I spend my money on, such as MTG cards, alcohol, concert tickets, food etc) and what happens to make it to Netflix/Lovefilm

Then it's finding time to sit down and watch a 1.5 or 2 hour film, which as someone who hates doing nothing and therefore has many plans which don't involve films, I just don't have the time to watch them.

Though, when I do get a chance, I typically just watch Horror films with the occasional Action flick if there are other people there... Other genres don't interest me too much (Comedy for the most part I only find infantile stuff aimed at young teenagers, Romance is just no, Action is just about watchable if just to see some splosions and shooting)

Explorer! I like watching pretty much anything, anytime as long as it's good and I'll try any type of movie out. I very seldom (if ever) go to the theater to see stuff because I can get rage-y pretty quick if people are annoying, but I love waiting until something is out on DVD and I'll check it out all on my own. Movies are definitely one of my favorite things. I'm more of a movie person than a video game player or TV watcher. I have a few favorites that I can watch a million times and never tire of them (Ever After and The Fifth Element come to mind immediately) but I always have room in my heart for a new film.
