I chose Charmander (char!) in Blue, my brother chose Bulbasaur in Red.

For me it was bulbasaur from the original RED.
That was awesome. Since then, I've stuck mainly with fire pokemon, but I'm hoping to use he new grass pokemon started for white and black.

Today I'm cool with it, and would choose squirtle all over again.

Nowadays I usually dump my starter in the box and use a Cubone/Marowak.

Charmander (in the original Red). I mean, it's a fire-breathing dragon. You don't get any cooler than that.

Oddly enough none of Charmander's evolutions are counted as "Dragon" type.
Also, I'm a Bulbasaur guy myself.

Also I may have been influenced by the Charizard on the front of the box and cartridge of Pokemon Red.

I also had an Onyx and a Chansey. They were broken as hell in Gen I. Very powerful. >

Cyndaquil on Pokemon Silver. Before that, I honestly thought Pokemon was just a shitty cartoon. Now, I just think it's a bunch of mediocre games.
