nope not closed network, they are on the internet, so are banks and they run unix, not windows
Do you have a link or anything to back this up? I tried looking quickly but couldn't find anything decent. Closest I got was that the London Stock Exchange delivers all of their real-time market data through a closed network. http://www.londonstockexchange.com/en-gb/products/marketdata/techinfo.htm

ok those stats are DESKTOP not a true market share, try also including corporate servers, web servers and such, the market share changes at that point, cause i'll show you stats for web servers and cherry pick who has a larger share of the market
As I said though, you hear stories about websites being attacked all the time and, more than likely, unix based systems are among those since they are so prevalent in that market. So I figured I'd just fall back to desktop statistics since I had (in my own head) ruled out the other possibilities, so probably not the best argument there, sorry. Again, any data you have on numbers of attacks on which OS would be appreciated.

This has perhaps gotten a little out of hand, and maybe I was a bit off base with my Linux comments (though I am yet to be totally convinced). Back on topic, I still believe that desktop market share of web browsers has an impact on their security.

I use Firefox as my university's IS services put all these popups that annoy IE to spite IE users.
Over the others there are several reasons:
-IE7: might as well scream "I'm Naked!!!" to the world at large.
-Opera: had ads when I first used it and seems like it still has those stability issues
-Safari: A big f-bomb to Mac over this one, it crept down onto my system making the whole LAN run slower then a 56k line, it constantly jerked me around trying to be the default browser and subsequently wouldn't keep bookmarks.

As far as I'm concerned only Firefox as a soul
(an image would be here appropriate to our discussion but alas I can't get the image tags to work)

Opera. Love how they help you make tabs (Left mouse click, drag mouse down, release), back and forward (left click and drag left/left click and drag right), and the speed dial. Le gasp, IT'S MY MAIN BROWSER. No bugs or such. I haven't gone back to FIREFOX.

Firefox because when I updated to IE7 my computer started to screw up every thing. It still takes a long time to start up.

Also because of download day.

I never use IE, anything I do can be done on Firefox.

Anything you can do on the internet can be done on most browsers. In essence, you basically just said "Anything I can do in a truck, I can do in a sedan."

exactly, I don't need IE so I don't use it. I haven't come across any compatibility issues yet. So why use a "truck" instead of a "sedan"?

I dunno what it is, but on my desktop, Internet Explorer doesn't really work at all. Like, I try to avoid opening at much as I can, but if I do, lots of weird things happen. First of all, if I click on my email thing on MSN (which opens in IE by default and I don't know how to change it), it will open my email in IE, about 5-6 ad windows will pop-up, and if I ever try closing any of the windows, IE will "Not Respond" and shut all of the windows down. This means that while I'm trying to read my emails, I have to have 6-7 windows open at any time, possibly more because they occasionally multiply.

I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Thankfully it got rid of the "Not Responding" part of it, but I still get destroyed by ads.

You should probably just stop looking at porn then. I rarely get any pop-ups using any browser I've got, Safari, Firefox or Opera.
I hope this answers you and that you stop projecting your pornographic lust onto people who don't need porn to satisfy themselves. Some people have girlfriends, you know.

I switched to Firefox because there's been a thread like this before and you all said it was better than IE. You were right.
Oh, congratulations for moving to Firefox.... I'd hate going back to IE now....

Yes! .....But I'm still using Firefox- I've been really looking forward to Chrome and I've seen some of the reviews for it, but haven't gotten up the courage to try it out yet....

What exactly makes firefox better?
hardly any popups
no spyware
no software installs you don't want
better security
faster
better web compliance
got the colbert bump
truly cross platform
Funny, when I had FireFox I had tons of pop-ups and such, and a lot of websites did not work in it. It also ran slower then my IE. I use Opera, and I don't see me changing unless the Google Browser is better.
