Oh yay, a Deathnote thread. I answer the same as always, don't use it. Since its existence basically confirms the afterlife, I won't risk my chances of not going to Heaven, after all, it sounds like a nice place and using the Deathnote once means never go to Heaven or Hell.

actually, I remember the last chapter of the manga stating that in the death note verse, there is no heaven and hell, only mu. (nothingness)
in the spoiler I've shown the three pages from the chapter 107 that more or less prove this.

If I must use it, bound by it's rules(i have no idea, never seen/read death note, only heard) I would chose the victim carefully. Some serial killer or rapist I CAN CONFIRM actually did it.

After that, dig a deep, deep hole, and cast it down. I would eventually dig it up though. I would keep it near me so no one could use it for evil. No one else would know of it's existence.

I said I'd lock it up until it was needed. I don't think "needed" is the right word, truth is I couldn't let power like that slip through my hands. I can't actually think of a scenario that I'd feel like it was right to use it but I don't know what's to come in the future and how it might help me, those I care about or even perhaps the greater good...

Its existence basically denies the afterlife, as I'd assume that it'd mean that the manga series was true, and the manga reveals at the end that the reason why Deathnote readers can't go to heaven or hell is because there IS no heaven and hell:

"All humans, without exception, will eventually die.

When they die they go to MU (nothingness).

All humans, no matter what they do in life, will go to the same place after they die. All humans are equal in death.

Once dead, they can never come back to life."

Use it once to kill someone really, really evil (the rules of the Death Note say that once found, a human is required to use it at least once), and then relinquish it.

no they dont. L never uses it after he gets it.
OP: you can't burn death notes...

Well, having never seen/read/etc. this thing I'm not entirely sure if it works like this, but from your OP it seems that I could simply write my own name in with the time of death set to a couple thousand years in the future and be ok till then?
