Poll: What would you rate these forums?

So I have a fairly mixed opinion on the escapist forums, and I was just wondering how everyone else felt about them.

I mean, on a general level I enjoy drifting through the various topics, but only the occasional non-article actually feels like it's... productive might be the word I'm looking for. The bulk of the rest just comes off as a bunch of rants and people trying to outsmart each other. About 1 in every 10 posts is an internet reference that's not funny anymore and nearly every post after the first couple pages of a thread is restating what earlier posts said. That being said, I genuinely appreciate a place where I can talk about games and the like without loosing people along the way.

Anyway, I'd rate them a 6/8. I don't really want this to become a rant thread, but I'm curious what people think.

I'd give it 7/8. This forum always has me coming back, and even though I haven't been a member very long, have really enjoyed my time here.

Polite people with interesting topics that pop up every day. It's well monitored by mods but it's just the occasional nut with a thing for their caps lock button to be on all the time and the few trolls that let it down. However, every forum has some trolls so I can't mark it down much for that.

While it is a cool place it is full of people who are stuck up, have a superiority complex to other gaming forums and like to insult others/make them look bad to feel superior. While the forums themselves are good, most of the community is not. Heck people condemn an OP for not having discussion value yet I am willing to bet anything that in a thread with this supposed "discussion value" they wouldn't discuss anything, they would just leave a comment and never return to the thread. Which is why I generally stick to user groups as the ones I regular have great communities and constant discussion.

So forums 4/8, user groups 7/8

I don't know. These are better forums than many I've come across, there's no arguing that, but I think they could be better. But then, I'm biased by my experience with some very nice private forums that went well out of their way to hedge out the absolute dick-heads. This site definitely tries and does a modest job, but an open forum is in no way going to be able to do it as well as a private one.

It's got a good Community, filled with Users I (mostly) don't dislike, as well as a fair amount of Users I enjoy.
It has good Moderation (In my Opinion), with good (Once again, Opinion) rules to keep the site nice and shiny.
It has Topics ranging from Oil Spills to How do you prefer to eat your Bananas?, and whatever may be inbetween.
It also has other point which I find to be grand.

All in all, while it's definitely not the Holy Grail Of the Internet, it's the closest thing I'll ever bother to find, and I love it for it.

It also has people who embrace the Pineapple, which is always good.

I'm pretty usre you get that everywhere on the internet though.

I'd rate this forum 6/8 It's better than most places but there is still room for imporvement. Or maybe that's just me.

8. By far the best forums I've ever found, mainly because the users know proper grammar and punctuation.

Seriously, though, the topics are at times very interesting (plus the "Search Bar Patrol" keeps the same topics from reappearing), and I've had remarkably few instances of "zomg u dun liek da gaem i liek yew iz fag lulz".

As far as video game discussion goes, this site is as intelligent and top-notch as it gets.

OT: I'd give them around a seven, maybe an eight on a good day.

It's been a good place to me, introducing me to cool people, people who were cool and are no longer with us (Commi, get your ass back here NOW!) and it does have a nice atmosphere.

Sure, there are a few niggle now and again, like inconsistent moderation on the rare occasion, a few bad eggs that keep slipping through the net and sometimes the Mods do take a bit of time to react to trolls and what-not but apart from that, I can't really fault the forums nor the people who keep an eye on things at all.

6/8. I'd say it was better, but many of the people suffer from a degree of megalomania that makes lord Vetinari seem humble in comparison (and for that matter, so does the website itself). Looking at the big picture (and by that I mean the vast range of topics that pop up every day), The Escapist is best likened to [RULE 1, LOL], only it's not an imageboard and it's supposedly about video games. Just look at it; it even has its own version of the cancer...
