added bonus question

if 2 17 year olds are in a sexual relationship for several years and one of them turns 18 would you consider that a moral grey area even though technically it would be illegal? would you hold out until you were both 18 so you wouldn't be breaking the law?
same question except this time the 17 year old sends the 18 year old naked/sexual images, i just recently seen on the news that this would be considered distributing child pornography and in one case the receiver has been place on the sex offenders list

Well, seeing as how your poll and question are based purely on physical traits, I can easily say it's creepier to be attracted to an 18 year old who looks 12 simply because you are being attracted to someone who looks 12.

If you had NO knowledge about this persons age/identity/personality and all you had to go on was that they look 12, and simply like them for their body, it means you want to have sex with a 12 year old.

While if you are attracted to a 12 year old who looks 18, and know nothing about their age/identity/personality and simply like them for their body, it means you want to have sex with a 18 year old.

Well that's how I see it anyways.

I'm going to cast my vote as 18YO that looks 12 as that implys that the interested party is more attracted to them being young, rather than physically attractive.

On the other side of the equation, I don't find anything creepy being attracted to a 12YO that looks 18. When do women start having periods; is around that sort of age? Anyway, whatever the law says about the matter, it's a fact that young girls can be extremely attractive and can often act older than they are. The whole 'jailbait' affair is a bit unkind to men in that regard. We're biologically driven to seek out young attractive females and for thousands of years that's been fine and dandy. Now the law says that sort of thing is wrong, so we have to suffer and get a grip on our urges. The drive's still there though and it's not going to go away overnight.

Someone might just be attracted to smaller women; petite women. Or men, I suppose. It doesn't mean they wanna fuck a 12-year-old. Although, 12 is a bit young. I confess, I've never met an 18-year-old who looked 12, and I don't know how I'd react to that, but I like petite women.

Liking petite women =/= wanting to fuck children.

There isn't anything particularly wrong with being attracted to a 12 year-old that looks 18, simply because attraction is a physical and hormonal reaction as long as you don't act on the attraction.

On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with being attracted to a 18 y.o. that looks 12 if you're not attracted by the fact that she/he looks 12 particularly. Even if you were... sexual preference isn't exactly something you choose, the only choice you do get to make is whether or not to act on the attraction.

As for the 2nd question, I don't think there's any sort of gray area whatsoever. The age difference would be very small (<1 year) and 18 is just an arbitrary threshold that somewhat coincides with a certain phase of body development. I'd say the age difference is much more relevant to the question that the arbitrary legal age threshold.

I understand the need for a well defined age of consent that's high enough to assume some measure of maturity, but outside of predatory/manipulative situations, I feel age isn't as important as simply being willing, moderately prepared and comfortable with the idea of having sex.

Neither, there's nothing inherently creepy about any attraction, it's how you act on those attractions which count. If as stated in the OP you know their age then there's no excuse for actively pursuing the 12 year old who looks 18, the 18 year old who looks 12 on the other hand would be okay.

I find there to be nothing even remotely creepy about thinking a great piece of ass is a great piece of ass, and I am greatly amused by people who start acting disgusted the moment they hear some hot girl is below 18. I'm dubious as to the possibilities of a 12 year old girl looking like she's 18 (it's most likely possible, but I mean the chances), but yeah, that's the principle.

Ugh... you'd be surprised. I had a shared building with junior high back in high-school and literally dropped my jaw when I learned that a hot girl I was checking out (just as tall as me, b-cup) was in freaking 7th grade. Come to think of it, 70% of 7th graders were taller than me back when I was in 12th grade, and I'm pretty much average height.

It's all the freaking hormones they put in the meat nowadays.

Yeah, no, that's perfectly fine. Honestly I think one years difference at that age means fuck all. Yeah if it were a 17 Y/O and a 28 Y/O it'd be creepy but... No. And presumably they'd already seen each other naked when they were both 17, and it sounds like the age difference is by a matter of months. Yeah, it's not weird or creepy in my opinion...

The point is, attraction outside of an immediate physical response is usually comprised of more than just physical appearance. Though given the information you have supplied, I say an 18 year old who looks 12, as you seem to be asking on attraction based on physical appearance. That would tend to imply that the only information we have to go on is our knowledge of what she looks like. On the other hand, it is perfectly natural to be attracted to whomever you are attracted to (provided he/she/it is sexually mature). This has been the social and physical norm since the dawn of time, it is only recently that this has become socially unacceptable (though pre-adolescent has always been a taboo). This means we have millions of years of genetic pre-disposition as well as chemical romance telling us what we are attracted to.

Of course if you go back as few as 60 years ago, you would see a much different type of woman in demand than what you see today. So perhaps we adjust our sexual stimulation faster than previously thought. There is no sure way to know, other than the fact that many men are attracted to women ages 16-24 as their primary target range (I'm not positive what it is for women, though I've been told it is closer to 25-40). This doesn't mean that men typically pull their mates from that pool, only that men tend to find that age range the most attractive (very broad generalization here, so please don't assume I mean everyone). Meanwhile people as a whole choose their mates from a 10 year age range (I've heard divide your age in half and add 7 as the socially accepted norm, but I've seen studies suggest 10 years). This is to reflect a mental maturity level closer to their own, as well as life goals.

I've gone way off topic now, but short answer I think the 18 year old that looks 12 is creepier.

I think this is a fairly misleading question. It doesn't really explain what information you have. If you don't know them and have just seen them then it's a case of "Someone that looks 18 or someone that looks 12", which would be a clear cut answer. But given that there is extra information, if you knew the ages then it's "Someone who is 18 or someone who is 12", which is a different answer. So essentially my question is do you know the real ages or not.

Anyway, I answered assuming that you knew the ages and could take that into account, I reckon it's creepier to be attracted to the 12 year old regardless of how she looks. Not unrelated is the fact that I went out for a long time with a girl who was actually older than me, but was often mistaken for being much younger. She didn't look like a child, at least I didn't think so, she was just petite, which is a distinction some people don't seem to make. Still, dodgy looks aside it just meant we got IDed everywhere, had to make sure we always had some.

It may have changed, or I may be remembering incorrectly/outright wrong, but iirc there are some places in the US where that's actually legal. i.e. It's legal for an 18 year old to be in a relationship with a 17 year old.

That's one's probably illegal, though. Child Pornography laws are actually stupidly strict. My wife's uncle is a attorney and he was telling once about a divorce case he had one time where the man was accused of possessing pornographic pictures of the couple's children (yeah, sick). Anyway, in order to present them to the court, he had to get a police officer to deliver them to the judge in closed quarters, because if they had been in his possession at anytime (even if the officer handed them to him and he handed them to judge immediately) he could be charged with possession. Additionally, if he handed them to the judge, even in open court, he'd be guilty of distribution.

I understand the rationale behind this (giving people no loopholes), but this is a little ridiculous.

As for the poll, it's creepier to be attracted to the 18 year old. But it's creepier to... er.... want the 12 year old. There's nothing wrong with being attracted to someone younger (especially if they look older) as long as looking is all you intend to do.

What do 12 year olds and 18 year olds look like? It's not as though you can cut count their rings like on a tree. Surely it's all subjective and depends on how good people are at estimating ages. I'm often mistaken for being 14-15 years old, but some other people accurately judge me to be 19. Just because someone looks 12 to you doesn't mean I will see them as being 12.

I think finding someone who is 12 but looks 18 creepier because to me attraction is never just appearance. If you're an adult and you find someone with the maturity and intelligence of a 12 year old attractive there is something seriously wrong with you, regardless of how old you think they look physically.

I'm kind of baffled as to how people can be attracted by appearance.
