Poll: What's More Survivable? Xenomorphs or Necromorphs.

Time for round 3! The Yautja put up a MUCH better fight than the Zombies, however the Xenomorphs still remain standing as the champion. But speaking of Zombies, someone had mentioned this in my Xeno vs Zombie topic: the Necromorphs.

So which parasitic alien is deadlier? Those sneaky, crafty, stealthy aliens or the psychotic, mutated space-zombies? So once again, my fellow Escapists, I ask you which situation presents you with better odds of surviving: a Xenomorph Infestation or a Necromorph Outbreak?

:p Really I've got a feeling that the Xenos are going to take the crown again, but we'll see!

Something I noticed in the last round was that some were assuming it's a 1v1 fight, even against the Xenos. While it would have likely been 1v1 against the Yautja, keep in mind the term "Infestation", which implies that in the Xenomorph situation, the shit has already hit the fan, or is at the very least in the process of hitting the fan.

Same goes with the Necromorphs in this case. Assume that if the situation isn't already completely FUBAR, it's damn close to being that way.

Necromorphs outbreak will mess with your mind let alone turn every living thing in the vacinity in to a blood thirsty beastie.

We don't have laser weapons yet, and since the only way to kill a necromorph is to dismember it, you'll have to get in close with an edged weapon, making your survival odds even lower.

Xenos need live hosts to spread, while necromorphs only need corpses, so the general outbreak is going to be even more huge.

Xenomorphs are easier to survive out of the two, by virtue of us actually having the technology to kill them.

Gonna vote Xenomorph as being easier to survive, for the same basic reasons as Daystar Clarion.

But part of me feels like all I'd really need to do to survive a Necromorph invasion is board up all the ventilation ducts in my general area, since that seems to be where they always come from.

Necromorph would probably be tougher in the long run. Unlike the standard zombies in round one, they are truly unlimited in numbers, and are not reduced to a single shuffling mode of attack.

Rendering an individual standard necro nonfunctional is much easier than a Xeno, but actually killing them is almost impossible. They adapt better, spread faster, and to a far wider variety of hosts. They also constantly regenerate their numbers, using any biological material available, not just living hosts of a certain size, from plant matter to skin cells in the air to the bodies of the ones you already eliminated. Even if they for some odd reason don't have the numbers to simply overwhelm you, they'll just keep coming until you make a mistake, run out of ammo, or in the best case scenario, simply keel over from exhaustion.

That doesn't even take into account the mind f***s they pull. Driving anyone that survives batshit insane isn't a bad tactic.

Looks like the Xenos might have finally met their match. I do have to agree that all the hallucinations and such that come with a Necromorph outbreak does add a whole new level of difficulty to surviving.

I personally still think the Xenomorphs are deadlier purely for the fact that they're sneakier. Facehuggers, in particular, have a natural affinity for being incredibly crafty and hard to contain. Edit: Though I've gotta say.......I sure as hell wouldn't be sleeping any time soon in either situation (infestation or outbreak).

Catch 22. Necromorphs need intact bodies to infect. Yet their attacks rip you apart utterly into viscera wince they are nothing but a huge number of blades. How do they infect you then? Ive never understoof this.

To be honest xenos suck in anything that isnt a cramped dark spaceship. An attack by day in our VERY open towns or countryside would be utter suicide for them.

Well, the thing with the xenos is that their numbers aren't unlimited, so they are gonna be sneaky to improve their own odds of survival.

Necromorphs are eternal, the only way to beat them is to destroy the marker. They don't need to be careful, they'll keep attacking until you just can't fight anymore.

No, they just need biological materials in order to be constructed.

Remember the first game? Remember that gunk that started getting spread throughout the ship, blocking oxygen?

Where do you think the giant tentacle monsters come from?

Necromorphs have to be easier, surely. I mean they come apart like a hot knife through butter in dead space right?

Eitherways, it's probably time for brown alert...

Like a hot laser through flesh.

Guess which one of those things we haven't got yet :D

Very good point, there. They do just kinda keep coming until you follow your dead wife's advice and kill yourself after taking the Marker back to where it belongs. :p

And while I'm leaning more and more towards Necromorphs, remember the Xenomorphs can face-hug things other than humanoid beings. Aliens 3, for instance, has a dog getting face-hugged and unleashing a Runner-type alien. They can be pretty diverse themselves, and until you take out the Queen there's going to be a near-endless supply of face huggers.

Their numbers are still less renewable.

Kill a necromorph and its corpse will be broken down to make more necromorphs.

Ok in this case I will actually go for the Xenomorph Infestation. The mental attack coming from the marker will only expose me to the Nercomorph. Also I pretty sure at this point I will be traumatized by the Nercomorph transformation and apperance that I will beg for a simple fast death from the Xenomorph (slice my gut or use their mouth to my head).

Oh right! Yeah thats a fairpoint. Those a purer breed though. The weird things with arms for hands come from those bat/lampray things that attatch to dead bodies. The huger stuff is made up later. Necromorphs are confusing...

I don't know if the books went into further detail, but yeah, I agree.

They're quite mysterious, I mean, how does the Marker go from making you insane, to a terrifying flesh monster?

Yeah, I guess no matter how you slice it, the Necromorphs can reproduce much faster than the Xenomorphs...and that's saying something considering how fast an Xenomorph infestation can spread.

I think a bigger question is what the Necromorph obsession is with the Marker in the first place. According to a bonus research log you get in your journal when you start a New Game + of the first game, the marker emits some kind of field/wave/signal that sends Necromorphs into dormancy and stops the biological absorption process (what you've been talking about with their regeneration). As such it is believed the Marker was put on that planet to "imprison" Hivemind. The animated movie prequel to the first game backs this up with the fact that the Necromorphs were actually being physically repelled once they got in a certain distance of the Marker.

Sooooooooooooo why the hell do they want Isaac to take it back to the planet? Maybe they're just isolationists that really just want to sleep peacefully for all eternity. :3
