You know what I think is really hurting the industry?? People wasting time pointing fingers at each other trying to figure out whose to blame for hurting the industry instead of coming up with solutions on how to fix it!

[sub]Yes, I'm fully aware of what I just did there, I'm trying to make a point here.[/sub]
Not just hypocrisy, but contradiction as well. How's a solution going to do any good if you haven't properly identified the problem? Blaming the innocent is just barely worse than casting no blame at all.
What do you mean we haven't properly identified the problem? The problem is that the industry is apparently hurting. Seems crystal clear to me.
Fine then: We need to properly identify the cause of the problem, happy now? Your solution seems to be "ignore it and it'll go away".
Just be sure that's what actually you're doing and not mindlessly pointing fingers at the nearest convenient scapegoat. Just saying.

Two things that weren't mentioned

1) Unoriginal first person shooters that want to be Call of Duty (and that includes Call of Duty) which seemingly make up the most of big budget games (I remember a big picture summing this up on Cracked but can't find it

2) Smartphone games which cost very little to make and can rake in tons of money

(I don't think piracy is doing harm to the industry outside the PC sector)

Piracy it leads to drm and loss of sales making it less inticing to produce anything thats not multiplayer. Pre owned sales kinda close second

Different reasons for everyone. Personally what's making me spend less money on new games is the fact I can never find any. I'm not made of money but I can wait for the price to drop. Only problem is once it gets down to something I'm willing to spend I can only find it new online, and I hate ordering online.
