First of all, I searched Ideal and Dream games in the Escapist and none of the topics have what I had in mind.

Some of us might have played a great game which had potential but had flaws or something lacking which hindered it in being an instant classic to your game collection. This topic is dedicated to those who have come up with what they would believe to be THEIR ideal game.

Origins of the Concept

Recent sandbox games like InFamous and Prototype certainly had wonderful potential as games. But in my opinion, they lacked a certain factor that would make me go WOW, and that is Variety in a sandbox game. So I thought up of the idea of what I would call my Ideal Sandbox game.

My Ideal Game Concept

In simple terms, my Ideal Game Concept would be as simple as combining all these:

- Fallout 3's custom character simulation and Sandbox RPG choices for combat and perks
- InFamous / Prototype's ideal sandbox gameplay

Your custom character's mission? Its up to you what you would want to do to the world. If i want to estimate this idea in 2 gameplay choices; You either be an anti-hero who just wants to do what he likes, or simply a destroyer of civilizations who just want wanton destruction. If these 2 are not what you usually do in a sandbox game, then it might be that you're playing the game wrong, in my opinion.

Let me assume you already created a look for your character. Now the next important thing is what powers would you want your character to have? These ranges from destructive powers for those who want to make the world crumble, up to powers of manipulation for those who want to control everything from the inside with just the snap of your fingers.

There would be main "written" missions in this game that would fluctuate and change depending on how you act and finish each mission. Same goes for side-quests. These choices affect if you do business alone or manipulate armies to proclaim martial law.

This is what I consider to be the ultimate Sandbox game. I have yet to even think of a name for this ideal game.

As I have suggested on previous threads, Warhammer 40,000 game. Co-op 3rd person shooter. Left 4 Dead + Gears of War. Campaign, play as either Imperium or Chaos.

Imperium get Space Marines and IG. SM are few in number but hard to kill. IG are large squads that die. Chaos gets Dark Eldar and Chaos Marines. DE are like IG - numbers over sheer awesomeness. Chaos are like Space Marines (obviously).

Missions (for campaign) would be capture a point or assassinate a leader or cleanse an area.

Multiplayer would be 2 or more teams, last team standing wins, or team that completes the most objectives in a certain time. (One person on the team could be voted in/randomly selected to be the leader, ie. Chaplain/Force Commander etc. they are then the target for assassinations but are very strong).

Your individual Marine/Trooper/Eldar-Rape-Fiend would be upgraded individually.

Squads would have minimum numbers and AI would fill those not occupied by until they reached the max number then players would replace them.

Could be awesome.

If there will ever by a sandbox game with things to do ...like jobs and whatever you would want to do as if you were in real life (with a bit more explosions) than id switch to it...but until that time its RPG with no doubt

My ideal game would be an RPG with true freedom of choice--Fable came close, but it really rail-roaded you to the ending, which I didn't like. My choice for best game would have the sort of choice freedom of Fable without the plot line dragging you along kicking and screaming.

Oh, and a fully destructible environment.

Originally I intended to vote for sandbox, but I decided against t being that there are soo many sandbox games now, the idea of in game freedom they represent has lost all meaning. This is due mainly to the need for realism in games now a days. GTA4 is a perfect example of this. Previously the GTA series put you in a cartoonish world and let you run free with weapons, without the fear of being fucked to much for it. In GTA4 the gaming worlds demands for realism resulted in: slugish handling, catapulting from vehicles and the tendency to turn into a rag doll after every nudge from a car.
So I voted for Action/Adventure because it is my belief gaming needs to ditch realism and focus on making games fun again.

All of them mixed together, a sandbox, puzzle solving, first person shooting, real time strategy, hack n' slash role playing game.
I mentioned this before but I believe the resulting monstrosity would then shout:
"KILL ME!"
In a choking voice.

my ideal game is a game that has saints row 2's deep character customization with the free roam and explorability of Prototype or Assassin's Creed, plus the stealth detail of splinter cell, maybe a lessened version of Red Factions destructability and combat system of ninja gaiden 2.

My favorite genre would be Action RPGs, a la Mass Effect. I like FPS a lot, and I like the character development and progression in RPGs. I just cannot stand turn-based menu-driven combat like in most JRPGs, Final Fantasy and the like. I need to be directly controlling the action in real time or it just isn't fun for me.

Deus Ex combined with Uncharted combined with Zelda combined with Gears of War.

Try to figure that one out.

I guess it would be something like Zelda, but with a bit more skilled action-ish fights, the boss fights are great, but most of the mobs are just filler.

I find that I can't vote. My ideal depends on my mood. Generaly it would swing between RPG, RTS, and FPS.

For me it is more about the quality of the game more than the genre itself.

Another ideal game concept came to mind.

Your main goal is to escape a heavily-guarded and hazardous environment to keep safe a top secret weapon. It is necessary to use this top secret weapon to finish your objectives.

You wanna know what the weapon is? One equation can sum it all.

Portal Gun + Gravity Gun = HOLY SHIT!

It would be a wonderful game wherein you're challenged to be as witty and as resourceful as you can be, and a free-roaming, non-linear environment/plot would be the best idea for this game.

Ahhh, dreams...
