to understand better my point please read what follows next.

In my opinion, let's take an example: let's say that CoD ModernWarfare 2, have very graphics, it's a great shooting game realistic and all, but that's it. the story is really basic, and those who weren't blinded by the shiny details and all the blasting and sh¡t, will agree that in essence it's just a "bourrin" game aka, one who goes with force through something someone etc.

so the question is: would you better like to have better, more complex stories, or just a simple script that shows spectacle for the masses?

I'd rather have an amazing story. Shiny things and explosions please, but I'm never going to play through the campaign all again because of how it made me feel. I might replay individual missions for the glamour, but meh

Gameplay over all.
MW2 may have a really basic story, i wouldn't know, i haven't playe dthe single player part yet. But it has nice multiplayer, it's a basic shotoer with lots of game modes, but what makes it godo IMO is the shitloads of weapons, unlocks and the whole class-cusomization thing. The level of freedom in your costumization is huge compared to any other shooter i've played.
When it comes to single-player games i prefer if they have a good story, but it's still not as important as good gameplay, if i just wanted a good story, i'd just watch a movie.

These paragraphs makes it seem (to me at least) that you group graphics and gameplay together as one. But tbh those 2 are as far from each other, as story and graphics.
Sure good graphics are nice, but IMO nice graphics have been nice for several years, so it's like iceing on a cake made (again IMO) primarily on good gameplay.

Mass Effect. I don't care that it's flawed, but the gameplay experience and storyline are really good.

gameplay. if i want a truely compelling story while i sit there and do nothing, i'll watch a goddamn movie.

but still, storylines are good to have.

I like both a good story keeps me interested enough to push past the controller ripping moments of frustration in some games..but most of the time i really enjoy the gameplay..the part where i get to push the buttons

Good example is Battlefield 2 for the PC nearly 5 years after it first came out. With around a 100 full or nearly full and thousands of servers that are either have somebody in it or are empty. With no story at all.

I do prefer a story thought.

the most memorable are always the story games, i'd rather spend 50-60 dollars on a masterpiece story that is unforgettable than rather play a game with complete shite for story and good gameplay, not saying those games are bad (such as games like mario and whatnot), just a preference

yeah and the graphics thing...i could really care less, as long as its not like the original nnintendo graphics, its not gonna make a difference to me, so i really hope game developers stop concentrating on that so damn much, its annoying, and a fake statistic in the games enjoyment

Modern Warfare 2?
Realistic?

BAHAHAHA!

Okay, Sorry, I just found that funny. :D

OT: I prefer a nice story. It helps to add all of the essential components that make a movie or novel great, but with the playability of a game.

Depends on type of game. RPG 75% story, 25% gameplay. FPS (like MW or Halo) 85% gameplay, 15% story. Action/adventure 60% gameplay, 40% story.

now, if it was between another shooter, let's say Battlefield Bad company 2 and on the other side, Heavy Rain, now which one would be more of your liking?
