So we finally find the most HVT in the world, the man we've spent a decade and billions of dollars looking for. And we just blow his brains out. No interrogation, no trial, even though New York and the FBI both have a couple of cases against him. Okay, maybe capture was impossible. But then we dump the body in the ocean, and rely on DNA evidence to prove who it was. No pictures? What commander decided it was a good idea to dump him in the ocean? The whole affair stinks like something a third world nation would get caught doing.

For my money, I think he's been dead a while. We either didn't know, couldn't prove, or didn't want anybody else to know. The first option comes from the rumor that he was moved from an Afghan hospital while on dialysis for renal failure. Fixing a busted liver is hard to do in caves with limited electricity, and somebody in that condition probably isn't going to live another decade anyway.

The second option is the version offered by Benazir Bhutto, the assassinated Pakistani politician. She was seeking US backing if she won the 2008 election, which looked really likely, and offered to tell Bush all she knew about Osama's whereabouts. She claims he was murdered in an internal al-Qaeda power struggle sometime in 2007. That was as much of that story that anybody knows, since Bush didn't take her up on the offer.

But we all know it's #5.

I think you mean trillions, as in thousands of billions. This was is not a cheap war for you.

I still am not so sure he was killed recently. I don't take anything related to war at face value. As far as I know, he hasn't even been heard from in years.

Well the only thing I thought of is that DNA tests usually take a little while, so it obviously didn't happen yesterday. Think most DNA tests take 5-10 days. If you're thinking longer than that, I have no idea. But I'm assuming it's within the past month or so.
