Poll: When is Hunting Acceptable?

As long as it isn't wasteful I have no problem with it. If your choice is to go buy meat or kill it yourself, I don't see any difference between them ethically. It's still an animal dead so that a person can eat. Such is life.

I get both sides of the argument, I really do, but in the end humans are hunters. Always have been. Perhaps someday we won't be, but that day isn't today.

If you're gonna be against hunting though, you damn well better be a vegetarian. Otherwise you're the worst sort of hypocrite. I have no respect for people that think killing is only okay as long as someone else does it.

I also don't much like killing purely for sport. I get the thrill of hunting, I really do. It's built into us at a very basic level, but I think there's something very wrong with a person who would kill anything just for fun and not get any use out of it. Killing for practical necessity is just part of life. Doing things in inefficient ways because it's more fun that way is what makes life worth living. Killing with no purpose speaks of seriously unhealthy desires though. I'm just likely to be a bit wary around anyone who would do that.

If this is what your going for i sugest you look up how many people are killed each year by deer. Yes i said DEER! this is what happens when you dont hunt animals get out of control since we have ,through ether expantion or just plan out killing them, gotten rid of their natural predetors. Was that a misstake? in hindsight yes but we cant change the past so now we get stuck with the responcibility to keep their numbers down. Oh and please for the love of god if your gonna go off on me for being "narrow minded" go look up the founders of our national parks and the dam sara club most were hunters! I have to conclude btw that your not an American or if you are you live somewere very heavily populated in which case i sugest you go take a hunters safty course so you can learn something

The single most important rule my cousin taught me about deer hunting: Aim for the kill, don't cause any unnecessary pain, make sure it's dead, and eat or use whatever you kill so that that animal has not died in vein.

Some sort of hunting is perfectly acceptable. I love the idea of a bunch of horse riding tories using hounds to chase down some chavs through a housing estate.

I'm sorry if you take this in a bad way, but I can tell from your posts that you're somewhat of an elitist douche. Please take this as constructive criticism and just learn from your mistakes, Try to look at both sides of an argument instead of being so pigheaded about one side. The best thing about Australia is there is no legitimite complaint against shooting Deer, Rabbits, Foxes, Pigs, Camels, Wild Dogs, Cattle, Goats and Horses (I don't think I could stomach the last one though). They're all introduced and are destroying the ecosystem and killing native animals either directly or indirectly.

Yes it's ideal to keep the meat, but even just shooting one and leaving it to rot (as wasteful as that is) saves the environment. Also a lot of people don't realise that male of certain species are not good for eating sometimes, especially male deers they have too much testosterone, makes their meat as tough as leather and worse tasting. So taking it's head and antlers is all you can do.

I hate finding joeys. That ruins the evening as far as i'm concerned. But then again we dont get very many wormridden ones, must have a very healthy mob. Which would explain why we have so many of the buggers.

Yeah haven't had that happen fortunately. The ones around here are tough bastards, my friend applied a coup de grâce with a shotgun to one he'd shot through the legs, it took a second barrel point blank before it stopped moving towards us. That was a little unsettling. Also got to watch out for flying brain matter as my other friend found out.

Hunting isn't the most popular pastime in this day and age but I think a lot of people still do it. Some people seem to condone hunting for food while others don't condone it in any case. So what do you think? When (if ever) do you consider hunting acceptable?

EDIT: Just to clarify I only placed the option to choose hunting only for sport in the name of fairplay. I'm honestly not expecting many people to vote for hunting only for sport.

What about a option like "Only if the animal attacks first?"
Like if your just walking around in the woods with a permit for a stag and a rifle when suddenly a cougar comes out of nowhere and you shoot it. You know? like under certain circumstances.

That;s not hunting. If you mean killing animals you don't have tags for, that's a different issue, poaching, not hunting. but killing an animal that attacks you isn't hunting.

Your hunting a stag but instead you end up with a cougar because it would have killed you instead.
It's not poaching if you didn't have intentions to kill it but it would killed you.
