As long as it isn't wasteful I have no problem with it. If your choice is to go buy meat or kill it yourself, I don't see any difference between them ethically. It's still an animal dead so that a person can eat. Such is life.
I get both sides of the argument, I really do, but in the end humans are hunters. Always have been. Perhaps someday we won't be, but that day isn't today.
If you're gonna be against hunting though, you damn well better be a vegetarian. Otherwise you're the worst sort of hypocrite. I have no respect for people that think killing is only okay as long as someone else does it.
I also don't much like killing purely for sport. I get the thrill of hunting, I really do. It's built into us at a very basic level, but I think there's something very wrong with a person who would kill anything just for fun and not get any use out of it. Killing for practical necessity is just part of life. Doing things in inefficient ways because it's more fun that way is what makes life worth living. Killing with no purpose speaks of seriously unhealthy desires though. I'm just likely to be a bit wary around anyone who would do that.
