I remember as a kid and not knowing any better wanting a game really badly because it was some movie licensed game like Indiana Jones or Star Wars or something and it turned out to be crap.

This happened to me personally on many occasions before I came upon Game Informer and otherwise good gaming. Probably the time I best remember was with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on the Game Boy. My friend had it and I remember thinking "Ooh! It's Indiana Jones! It even has a picture of him on the game cartridge! This game must be awesome!!! I wanna borrow it!!!" So I asked my friend if I could borrow it and he said to me that it wasn't really any good. So I thought "Phooey! He doesn't know what he is talking about! It's Indiana Jones! It has to be awesome!" So my friend let me borrow it and I put it into my Game Boy, riddled with excitement because it was fucking Indiana Jones! I start the game and I'm in some dark cave and I'm like "Cool! I'm in some dark cave! Just like Indiana Jones!" I progress through the level, punching some people who are I'm pretty sure are bad guys and like 10 minutes or so I'm already lost and have no clue of where to go or what to do. Eventually I just give up, but I still think it was an awesome game because I WAS INDIANA JONES GODDAMMIT! I even traded something that I don't remember for that game.

I know this has to have happened to pretty much everyone on this forum at some point at time in their gaming lives so I want to hear your stories!

Superman. God help me, Superman. I was, and still am, a huge Superman fan. I watched the animated series, had the first two movies on VHS, owned a pair of Superman pajamas, had a boatload of crappy little action figures... You could say I was obsessed. My mother knew this, so when she found out that there was a Superman videogame out for that newfangled Nintendo 64, she must have put two and two together.

Christmas of 1999 was very special for me. I can't remember most of what I got. Probably more toys from the latest Superman: TAS toyline. But there was one gift I'll always remember: Superman 64, wrapped up in blue wrapping paper peppered with the man of steel's iconic emblem. A Superman videogame of my very own! I couldn't wait to pop it in and play it.

I loved it. I played it for hours on end. As every gamer worth his salt knows, the game is awful. It's riddled with glitches, and seems to go out of it's way to make you feel like you aren't Superman. When I was nine years old, I didn't see any of that. All I could think was, "Wow... I'm flying! I'm really flying! Woah, heat vision! And super speed!"

Best Christmas ever.

That's how i felt about the first "Star Wars" game that came out for the Gameboy.

Same thing with the "Batman" movie game that came out for the Gameboy (though i somehow managed to actually play thru that one, but.. Batman has a GUN! Batman HATES guns! Even as a 12 year old i knew there was something wrong with that!)

The only games I played as a kid were bought by other people for me (all on the pc) I was never able to choose my own games.

Never, mostly because I never had the money, and looked to see what it was like first

Actually happened more to me when I was older, not so much when I was a kid, guess that was because my standards were a little lower.Or that I didn't find half of that stuff that pisses me off all that annoying cause it was first time experiencing it.

The Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets for the GBA, not horrible but kinda mediocore. Also A Shrek game for the PS1, It had Shreck and that was good enough for me.

Ugh...
ahhhhhh yes... However I did enjoy this game until near the end and found out it was less of a game and more of a movie supplement... And I replayed it recently and finally realized just how lame it really was...

I remember there was this one Scooby-Doo game for the Genesis that turned out to be near-incomprehensible.

Also, Out of this World, though apparently people like it. I can't figure out why, it gave me nightmares...

The original Ninja Turtles game on the NES. I loved the cartoon and was so excited when I got that game. But it was so damned weird.

Giest, I thought since you were a ghost you could go through walls I could have fun but you can't go through walls or a locked door.

Full Auto (maybe I wasn't a kid, but I was still a noob, didn't buy games when I was a kid). The review I saw said it was pretty decent, and the cars had GUNS on them. I got the game...and it blew.
