Your exactly right. They are like the Big Hollywood Producers of the gaming world. They can churn out bad, cheesy movies. However, they do have the ability to occasionally make something of worth.
EA churn out identical sports games year after year, and then a game like The Sims or Dead Space comes along and they are sort of redeemed.
I don't think they are ruining the industry, but some of their conduct is questionable. (treatment of employee's,) and praying the day that FIFA will end comes soon.
I have a chip on my shoulder over Activision and it's shameless killing of the 007 Goldeneye reboot, but i loved Tony Hawk games growing up, and their attempts at innovation make them just appealing to the market rather then truly trying to develop the medium.
