The super human x-ray vision guards who can see you through the wall and know exactly when and where you will enter the room from.

I'd prefer the impossible AI. For one thing, the (as Yatzee puts it) pants on head ritarded AI just break my immersion and make me feel like I'm wiping out a defenseless insanity ward in the hospital. Although it gives potential for "so bad it's good" material, it can get old after a while. Tricking the ninja AI with perfect pathing to come around a corner and then shotgun it's face off is much more rewarding.

However, if a game involves a sniping mission, I'd prefer it the other way around. Seriously, I fail to see how or why enemies with automatic weapons can manage to target me from a half mile away and constantly throw off my aim.

Or the guards in Oblivion, who know you murdered someone in a cave with no witnesses at all. Also, how the crap did the Brotherhood know?
I 'murdered' a guy by accident becuase everyone before him with the same clothes had been hostile for the entire quest chain and the brotherhood shows up. I just kind of kept quiet about it, probably for the best also, they gave me shinies.

The AI in oblivion really is special. I attacked a cave with a necromancers in it and loads came swarming but they all started hitting each other then a massive fight broke out. So I just sat in the corner and waited for the winner :/

Probably 'dick move' AI is worse than stupid because at least you have a chance against the stupid ones.
In oblivion I once shot a necromancer in the back with an arrow, then he turned around and ran towards me, whereupon I promptly cast invisibility and he stopped and vocally expressed his suspicions that a rat did it.

I prefer stupid, at least then there is a chance of winning/playing the game. In RTSs i sometime get the feeling that the AI has the ability to select, group, order, and produce several units all at the same time, just because the AI doesn't need to use a mouse (while a human player does), which I find unfair (as pointed out by OP, super-human ability, as it is not something human could physically perform).

Haha you just made my day!
On topic: Game developers never seem to get AI driving right..
The enemy are always like professional race-car drivers while the AI teammates haven't even got a clue where the fucking objective is.

You can still have fun with stupid AI - unless it's unworkably dumb - but superhuman AI are almost depressing to go up against. There's an element of challenge, sure, but no real fun.

I dare you to play Far Cry if you disagree with me.

ArmA 2 anyone? The AI was so unhuman that it could headshot you while you were lying on a meter long grass dressed in a ghillie suit a kilometer away from the enemy in the darkest night, and they still hit you with a pistol.

LOL depends.

If I'm on a roll, than I want the super human A.I....BRING IT ON!

But, if I'm running away and the A.I is looking for me, I sit there praying for a stupid one, so it doesn't see me. :p

Depends, and for different reasons. In an FPS the one thing I dislike more than anything is the enemy AI knowing where I am at all times, even when I'm trying to be ultra-sneaky or sniping, which are my preferred game-play types. In other games, I find it disturbingly anti-immersive when the AI acts like a tool by bumping into scenery or milling around while I'm killing their allies five feet from them.

Stupid AI,
I don't mind super smart AI if I've chosen to put the game on a higher difficulty settings but the stupid AI is just annoying. This is probably why I ALWAYS drive when playing Halo Campaign

I chose stupid AI because it's the stupid AI of companions that often utterly destroys a gaming experience. For instance, Vampire the Masquerade; Redemption was completely unplayable because of the uncontrollably stupid behavior of the companion AI. Why does my glass jawed necromancer companion feel the need to attack everything with her tiny little knife when she can completely control the battle with her spells? I honestly think that none of the companions in that game ever used their special abilities even once while I was playing. And then I got to the modern world and threw in the towel as the level design went to pot.

I'd prefer idiots for enemies, as they might at least be amusing. The omniscient, x-ray vision dirtbags have a way of pulling frustrating bullshit that's either impossible to deal with normally or feels like chipping away at a concrete wall with a doorknob.
An enemy always blocking/countering just before I attack is not challenging, it's just fucking tedious. Ripping through legions of foes who've never held a shield isn't really a challenge either, but it's cathartic in a Dynasty Warriors kind of way.

I think we can all agree stupid friendly AI is bad, though, right? I'll bet there's a meme for it somewhere. (Keeping the DW thing in mind)
"Three allied generals and their troops walk into a base.
All driven back by guard captains."

"We will fight bravely as well!
*12 seconds pass, (Bravery guy) was routed*"

Not that I'd prefer they have all the fun for us, but it'd be nice to leave a newly conquered fort without it being retaken by the first wandering enemy officer to shake his fist at it.

With stupid AI I always felt that even if the game wasn't acting realistically I could always get a joke out of it. One example for me is how in every Assassin's Creed game none of the guard recognize you in your distinctive cowl until after you've perforated their friends, especially the rooftop guards who let you get right up to them. It's not exactly realistic (especially late in the game after you've murdered a battalion's worth of guards) but it's funny to crack jokes when they're walking towards you down a street and I'm 20 meters away holding a 40 pound sword over my head about to hurl it into them.

Superhuman smart AI is irritating because it's a bother no matter what difficulty level you play on. Not necessarily hard to play but just plain annoying.

The cheaty bastard, of course. Stupid AI happens when devs can't make a better one. Cheaty bastard happens when the devs don't try to make a good AI.

On that note I love AI War being upfront about its AIs - they are bigger, better, faster, stronger than you, they don't require resources and the only advantage you get is awareness. The players know the AI is a threat, while the AI turns its attention to them only progressively.

I prefer Stupid AI, you can sometimes remove this element from those games by playing it on the highest difficulties. The AI will still be stupid, but with their advantages the game often becomes a challenge for those who want it.

Though stupid AI in companions will utterly ruin a gaming experience. Having to backtrack to get AI around simple obstacles, or needing to keep them alive when they run out into open/in front of you is terrible.

Tales of Symphonia is among my favorite games of all time, and the one temple has black shades you need to guide around. This is a simple task made frustrating due to utterly terrible AI. It gets so bad that I've actually put down the game for a week or more before playing it just because I dread having to baby step through the temple.

Guild Wars is another excellent game where you sometimes need to escort NPC's from one location to the next. The problem here is they walk about 1/4th the speed you do and have to travel long distances. Not so much stupid AI here, but a terrible design choice that hurts the campaign.

I prefer the Stupid AI, as you can get some good laughs when you're on your 3rd playthrough.

Mass Effect 2, on my 3rd playthrough, and I swear the Varrens and Vorcha in the Archangel and Mordin missions are getting dumber.

First time through:

Easy Difficulty.
"Hey! Little Dog things. pew pew pew. Wait, WHAT?! ARGH! RUN FROM DOG THING!"

Second playthrough:
Normal Difficulty
"Ah, the dog things. Need to watch out for their flanking."
*Dogs runs into plain sight just to roar twice.*
*Headshot*
"Hmm...Didn't do that last time. Ah well. Easy kills."

Third Playthrough:
Normal Difficulty
"So, these dogs are either going to be pretty easy or a *****."
*1 Varren runs into a wall repeatedly, another glitches on top of an inescapable box and a third runs in circles.*
*Vorcha stand around, occasionaly spray-and-praying my team, out in the open, not bothering to take cover much.*
"Ok, these guys are getting stupider on each playthrough."

At least a game with stupid AI can be fun. If the AI is too smart, that just makes that game extremely frustrating. Plus, it's not like games with extremely stupid AI enemies can't still be challenging or even nerve-wracking, as I'm sure anyone who's played Minecraft could attest. The enemies in that game have very simple AI and almost no pathfinder skills, but they're scary as shit all the same.
