For us who are not down with the military lingo, what's the difference between Marine Corps and Navy?
The marines are basically the navy's infantry.
So how is that different to the Army, functionally? I still don't get it.
marines are the security forces for the Navy, and an expeditionary force meant to be deployed at a moments notice, but also be able to engage in sustained fighting. the army takes longer to deploy, and generally is not the first into a fight. its complicated.

The marines are the first to be sent in to battle. They have much longer boot camp than the rest of the armed forces. They are the ones who are generally badasses and know how to kill you at least 100 ways with their bare hands.

You are missing an option from the poll: None! As in, no branch can be held to be more important than any other.

A succesful army is always, always a combination of different elements specializing in different things.

I won't vote, since there is no option that represents my point of view on the matter.

I say airforce. Sure, the enemy would probably have anti-air missiles, but that's when you use your anti-missile missiles.

The Marine Corps is like the army except they Are better trained, generally not as well equipped, and are resposible for providing force projection from the sea.

I'm hesitant to pick between the army and the marine corp. Either way while having a superior navy and air force is vitally important to winning the war, you can still lose easily without ground troops. In Modern Warfare there are civilians to worry about and a better trained ground force will help more than I believe a better trained air force or navy.

Air Force wins overall! You can have some of the best trained and equipped troops on the battle field but they're no match for a jet that can kill them in less time then 5 seconds or an ac-130 gunship that can kill from well above the clouds.

I would have to say Navy since the Marines are a department of the Navy. Both have their own air units, the Marines are the ground force of the Navy which gives you the ability to actually hold positions on land. So you could cover the oceans with your ships and subs, the air with jets and helicopters, land with the Marines and still have nukes again with the subs.

Thanks. English is not my native language so mistakes happen.

I'm used to calling invading militaries and military operations as 'armies', you know 'Army core 3 attacked from the east, they achieved local air superiority most of the time due to the extra large fighter element attached to them...'

EDIT: adding to the confusion, in my native language, the words 'Army' and 'Military' can be translated to a single word, 'Armeija', that can have either meaning depending on the context.

And that air force is useless if they can't find the enemy or get shot down by AA missiles and/or AAA and/or enemy fighters.

Air force is necessary is modern warfare, sure, but not more so than any other branch, I believe.

Air Force cannot win a war on its own, you need backup in the form of the army.

Yeah your kinda right. If I was to choose only one it would be the air force but you really do need all the branches working together to win a battle.

Do what I did: refuse to vote since no alternative represents my point of view. :)

Depends on the situation. If you just want to blow everything up, airforce. If you want to have a civilized war like america always does for some reason, marines, so i'll give marines m vote because they're more badass

I think its pretty much a tie. All posts have been screaming for the air force but truth is u need all, otherwise they wouldnt have been separated.

The air force couldnt win without ground troops to take out anti aircraft fire, and the ground troops couldnt win without the air force dropping some bombs here and there. Im not much of a navy guy so i dont know much, but i still know they are as necessarry as all the others.
